And the drought continues on.
Hey, I just posted the first ever episode of the phandom podcast. There's another thread if you have questions, I'll quote the post in the spoiler below!

Do you think they actually realize how much quieter the phandom has gotten these past few weeks? Because it really has. It's not just IDB. Phandom might really love itself for its ability to entertain itself, but one element of that is almost doing it for Dan and Phil to see and when Dan and Phil aren't looking even the phandom loses steam.
No videos to talk about, no livestreams to talk about, distant hope of collabs, a minute or two in someone else's video - they're not actually fueling much right now. Their channels are still growing but the growth rates have drastically slowed. Do they feel like because they've never had any staggering drops or setbacks that they're infallible? They obviously know that they have an extremely patient audience who will accept less from them than most other youtubers produce and still stay more engaged. But do they think because social media stats put them on a pedestal that it's ok not to try and they can sort of just hang in limbo with an audience that's always waiting?
Because, really, it's impossible to see anything they're doing now as actually trying. Even Phil's tweets about how videos resume next week fall pretty flat because that means we've basically got less than a month between the big 'post-tour comeback' and the next leg of tour. Three weeks in Dan-and-Phil-land is maybe three videos. Four if they're spectacularly motivated, five if some kind of miracle occurs. But the flip side of that is even if we get regular content for three weeks it'll mean they've blown their load and we won't get anything while they are on Australian tour and for another two weeks after that.
I love them as people and I'm interested in their lives and relationship, as people, but right now as youtubers they're hovering near the bottom of my list.

I think if I wasn't speaking with anybody in the phandom like I do through Skype or Twitter I would've left a long time ago, not entirely left though, I think I would've become a more casual viewer who doesn't really care when they see a new video in their sub box and waits a few days before watching the video. It's the people of the phandom that make me stay not them (at least for now)alittledizzy wrote: No videos to talk about, no livestreams to talk about, distant hope of collabs, a minute or two in someone else's video - they're not actually fueling much right now. And the fact that they know that people will accept anything from them because they haven't posted in ages really annoys me a lot especially when I see people trying to find them excuses like "they must so tired". Listen, I know damn well that they are tired after this tour and it's totally understandable but they didn't even try to pre-film videos or anything. Like I see several YTbers going on tour and they record several videos in advance to keep their channels alive and to not let the people that are not interested about their tours down, I don't understand why can't do that too.

I was scrolling through that Twitter account looking for a good time and I feel so attacked right now. With emotions.phamnotof wrote:plot twist though: if you read through coffee dad's twitter, it *will* make you cry
I have so many questions about this Twitter account. is this the same person who runs the ''dril'' Twitter account? What is its purpose? Is this some kind of social experiment or good old-fashioned trolling? Why do I identify so much with coffee dad? Don't mind me I've just had three coffees in the evening....

I think they are really underestimating the situation, I would have left ages ago if I didn't entertained myself with the M&G photos and the merch crew, I survived also thanks to the phandom and IDB. Personally I don't pretend a video, are from that point of view really inconsistent, but a ls or even a nice photo, like "finally reunited with ribena ". They are one of the few youtubers I like but I'm a "far from the eyes, far from the hearth" kind of person, they are losing me so I can only imagine how a less imeresed in the phandom viewer might feel.alittledizzy wrote:Do you think they actually realize how much quieter the phandom has gotten these past few weeks? I'm the kind of girl that hits submit too fast and thinks about the thousand of things she wanted to say afterwards.
The conclusion of my post is that the fact that the phandom is getting quieter or starting leaving I know it's not going to happen any time soon is not a good sign at all because if people start to care less about the videos they upload every month then there won't be the same enthusiasm that there is now and will lose views and their popularity.

I think it's more like a relationship that's at a point where it needs a few therapy sessions and someone to sit both sides down and make sure they understand how to communicate with each other. Deps seem to be unclear on what the audience actually wants (regular content on the same level as other youtubers, or exceptional content if they are both settled into being one-video-a-month youtubers), and the audience in turn is unclear on what is appropriate to expect from them. And, you know, if at the end of the day it's irreconcilable difference then at least people would understand what deppy are willing to put into the relationship back to us and decide on their own if that's worth remaining for or if there are greener pastures out there waiting to be discovered.Philena wrote:Like I said before, this relationship is past its prime. Can the spark be rekindled? Come on guys, we need some romance. Wine us. Dine us. 69 each other and put the video on YT. Please.
lmao like i'd actually go anywhere
But until then we're all just kinda hanging out wondering if this is the new status quo or not.
Yes, Pokemon GO is the new Deppy.Philena wrote:Meanwhile, got some Pokemon to catch!
yes, oh my god, yes please.Philena wrote:Like I said before, this relationship is past its prime. Can the spark be rekindled? Come on guys, we need some romance. Wine us. Dine us. 69 each other and put the video on YT. Please.
I'm feeling the same way. I'm way more interested in their lives than their videos right now, although Phil's psychic video surprised me with how interesting it was.alittledizzy wrote:I love them as people and I'm interested in their lives and relationship, as people, but right now as youtubers they're hovering near the bottom of my list.
I think that part of why they are so stanned and popular is because they are unobtainable. In other words, they act like real celebrities in how much they hide their personal lives, also they have a bodyguard, etc. They don't daily vlog. Youtubers who daily vlog I love, but I don't stan to the extent of D&P, I just casually enjoy their content. Julien Solomita for example, daily vlogs his and Jenna Marbles' life. I used to be really obsessed with Jenna Marbles and want to know more and more about her life, and now that I know a lot more about her life, I've calmed down a LOT. I still watch all her videos and enjoy them thoroughly, but I'm less like OMGZOR about it. Does anyone know what I mean? I feel like deppy hiding their lives encourages stanning.

I'm definitely scared of that, thank you for bringing that up, but I still see some light at the end of the tunnel, we just need so fire to keep it going, a bit more for main channels videos and a lot of effort in live shows and DAPG, people are quieter yes, I did notice that, but we also are very quick to forgive them when they post a video (forgive or forget? I think more like forget the anger but forgive if they keep it up for long enough - and remember it on the next drought).NarrysCanary wrote:I'm the kind of girl that hits submit too fast and thinks about the thousand of things she wanted to say afterwards.

I'm scared but I do know that we have a lot of people with the same feelings I'm feeling now - angry, yes, but I know I'm never leaving, maybe leaving the phandom and the obsession if we keep getting colder and colder but I know they got me hooked on their youtube for until they stop doing youtube or just turn into horrible people (not likely).
I just hope that they get back at it quickly and I'm an optimistic so I'm hoping that they saw how angry and quiet their most dedicated viewers are and they will prepare better for the next leg of the tour.

The word 'coffee' doesn't look real anymore, oh my god. Yes to the Pokemon Go, I may have run out of my house into the pitch black winter night looking for one a few hours ago.
I can't believe Phil said 'next week' that means after the weekend, it's been so long. So long. I did notice that the phandom on tumblr's been pretty quiet- I keep seeing jacksepticeye in the tags. Thought it was just that invaded other youtuber's tags.
All the phans are going to leave Dan and Phil with their irregular upload schedule and flock to him.

I've been on here much more lately than Tumblr, which I was on every day for a while, so I haven't noticed how it's been from day to day, but popping back in every few days, there's still art and screenshots etc I haven't followed the main tags, though, so I don't know what the vibe is there.
I have a soft spot for them over/different from anyone else so I'll always be interested in what they do, but it's waning the more they don't seem bothered. I'd like them to address it and acknowledge they notice what people are saying, but they seem happy to go their way and expect us to go with it.
I thought last week that when Phil said he was looking forward to filming videos next week, they'd upload one this week. Nothing fancy, but "Hi I'm back so tired, miss American pancakes, see you soon". Meh

Does Phil even remember that he can make a casual sit-down-tell-a-story video? And that it'll be fine? That those videos were a staple of his channel for years? Has Dan infected him with the mindset that every video must be overthought and editing must take three days? Sigh.flarequake wrote:I thought last week that when Phil said he was looking forward to filming videos next week, they'd upload one this week. I agree with everything you said. I didn't intend to say that the phandom or are going to disappear tomorrow. You said that you were optimistic and it might help you a lot, I'm a very pessimistic person so I don't have a lot faith right nowLurkingTrash wrote:I'm definitely scared of that, thank you for bringing that up, but I still see some light at the end of the tunnel, we just need so fire to keep it going, a bit more for main channels videos and a lot of effort in live shows and DAPG, people are quieter yes, I did notice that, but we also are very quick to forgive them when they post a video (forgive or forget? Sadly for me I have tried watching a few of jacksepticeye videos, but so far haven't been able to finish most of them. It just doesn't really hold my attention.opendoor wrote:The word 'coffee' doesn't look real anymore, oh my god. I'm cursed with the fact that as far as big youtubers go, only really grab me.
I really hoped that we would be getting something this week, but that is even apparently too much to ask for. Phil better do a live show on Sunday though.
