When did Dan and Phil start playing Undertale? If it was just before their US TATINOF leg then it might explain why they took so long to get through it. For a long time I didn't watch it though because of the length of each video but I just started a few months back and now I'm really excited for it! Hope it arrives before Christmas. I also really love their voices?? I think Phil's high voice is hilarious (the time when he tried to put on a squeaky voice for the bunny or something and Dan thought it was creepy instead of cute). I'm also interested to see where the game will go (judiciously avoiding spoilers).

I don't know about you guys but dan waiting until the time is right to make a video irritates me, bc I want to see that immediate thought process from his brain to the screen. and the fact that he never uploads much to begin with is especially frustrating- if he has such good ideas, just DO iT alrEADY

I guess it seems very frustrating to us especially when Phil seemed impressed by his many ideas! But then again, Dan seems like quite a perfectionist and it's probably different now that making videos is literally his job so there is the pressure of making sure the video is good enough to get many views and likes, and continue earning him some income. Also, maybe it's an artistic issue? Like when writers have many ideas but have to get in the zone or the mood to actually start writing on them. Though I don't understand him saying that a certain video is a "May 15th video" or something - unless he's waiting for certain events to coincide with his videos ie. a meme, some talent show etc. - but then again his videos all seem pretty disengaged with sociopolitical contexts - since they're mostly sketches or talking to the camera about something? I do wish someone would give him the push to make videos though! Because not making videos at all is even worse than putting out a bad video (that would easily be replaced by the next video being better anyway).

Back to the ls, I have been reading so many comments on Tumblr where people are saying Dan was extremely rude and snappy. Maybe I'm in the minority but I just thought he was taking the piss and being scarcastic in a homourous way. Some are going as far to think we are heading back to 2012 times. Like wtf?!
I just think after Dan trolling us all on Twitter the last week etc people were just expecting some grand Live gesture of love towards Phil on the ls, or a phan is real reveal.

Some people do not appreciate the fine art of deadpan attitude. I actually enjoyed the shade towards the fanservice and also the fixed awards. You go, Dan. Be salty.
I mean this in a sense of it's like since people have noticed Dan being more out there, the creepiness has increased, as though they might pressure him into revraling something because yolo. We had a general period of quiet where fans didnt dare to ask questions like the pinof8 ones, and now its resurfacing.

I wonder if the submissiveness with cutting off his own train of thought when Phil asks (tells) or asking permission to tell a story is related to how Dan feels about his own ability to socialise. because I do think his whole career, in a way, is socialising. sometimes it feels like watching one giant long very intimate therapy session, and i don't get that feeling from Phil. how Dan presents himself online, how he acts at awards shows, how he speaks to followers in liveshows, how he speaks to (or avoids) peers, what he prints in their books, it's all the same process. making a video or presenting yourself online can be a solitary act of self-expression, you can do it and walk away. but not so much when you're earning income from it. it becomes a constant two-way stream. what he experiences is not what 99% of us experience, and how we use social media and how we operate in society as an individual. what makes Dan easy to relate to and a great online personality are also probably the reasons he shouldn't be doing this for a living, and that's a difficult dichotomy.
i relate to that sense of relief in letting someone take the decision from you, when you don't trust yourself/are exhausted with yourself and your own tendencies, particularly if they're being exacerbated during a period of time in your life. i don't think it's unhealthy to rely on someone in the way Dan seems to whenever they're together. i do wonder however how much he does it. i hope for his own sake that he's able to swing back again soon (for life is always a see-saw, not a one-way trajectory). i'm picking up on lots of behaviour i recognise from other periods the last month or so; increased fidgeting in liveshows, pulling silly facial expressions or grimacing to seemingly mask deadpan-ness, kind of out-of-the-blue shadiness (i do think he's fixated on the fanservice thing lately), sometimes jarring out-there sexuality, self-deprecating and nihilistic comments. attention seeking reblogging and liking online, etc. Mixed in with all this are amazing, positive things he should be owning and expressing, and genuinely funny moments, and pride in his personal relationships and friendships (i sense a renewed desire for the later, perhaps through hanging out with Pj lately from the spontaneous mentions; he represents someone established and familiar but not necessarily who he has been close to). the impulsiveness that comes from an unsettled period of change is a double-edged sword. Phil is also flourishing so fast it's hard to keep up, he becomes realer to me by the day, but it doesn't feel like watching the same movie as Dan's. their energy is balancing one another at the moment, and they are so very lucky to have that (and I think they know it and that is where the urgency and fondness still springs from). the one thing I relish more than watching two people who just work together is watching an individual come into their own, though. on their own terms, no apologies.
unrelated: totes agree with the dilemma of the gaming channel. that's par for the course artistic/commercial struggle though, right? Phil reassuring Dan he doesnt have to post in Dec and separate comment about Phil wanting more gaming channel content have meaning but i'm not sure what.
was this already posted?
if they've done the same thing as last year and already filmed within 24 hours of asking for questions, i can definitely see how this would reflect in the tag. not surprised Wirrow liked it, he continues to be quietly defensive of them in a way i find endearing. they indeed encourage it with their Pinof choices every year though, it's like an inescapable catch 22 and comes back to Dan's seeming self-consciousness with the fanservice/baking vid comments lately.
+1 all of this.
In my opinion, Dan is more emotional that usual because TABINOF and TATINOF are ending. Those projects took up two years of his life and it's nearly over, and it's back to business as usual. So I see that as a reason for him to project disinterest in posting, gaming, et al.
As you said, we are seeing more Phil Lester and not AmazingPhil, which is a special treat for us all. That LS gave us Phil, not AmazingPhil, and it showed how he and Dan relate on a much more personal level. Dan has said it himself, he simply cannot cope, and this is one of the most honest things he has said about himself, because he can't. We really can't compare him to Phil, who seems to keep emotions closer to his chest whereas Dan simply has no real filters, yet he can turn "off" and "on" at the drop of a hat.
Dan is unsure of himself. Phil fills in the gaps by reeling Dan in when he needs it (and that LS proved that) but could it also be a sign of respect the way Dan looks up to Phil, or is it that Dan is afraid of doing something that would lead Phil to think less of him?
Needless to say, you couldn't pay me to be Dan's age ever again. I feel for him because I remember being 25. It sucked all sorts of ass because it seemed like a 10 year log identity crisis.

I think the first time Dan said "is that what you f-ing wanted" it might have been a but shocking but I feel that people sometimes forget that his personality is one that is edgy, caustic and sometimes cutting - even though in recent days he has been more toned down. Also I like it that he sort of breaks the fourth wall and acknowledges what his viewers have been saying as well as showing his awareness of what they want. Personally I do like a bit of meta-ness and the way he is self referential. And as others have said it might be a way to mask his discomfort with exposing his emotions (I mean he is really thankful for Phil there's no denying that). Just my two cents

I understand Dan wanting and needing a break from solo videos after how much they've been doing lately and are still doing. Sometimes pushing through is too hard and you need a break or all joy gets sucked out of what you're making. It's a shame he still responds sarcastically/defensively like that to phandom demands, he said "no" to the Guinness-chugging assertively enough, though that was lighthearted and not about the same sort of thing.
I agree about the pinof tweets, I don't remember seeing any like that last year, let alone dozens of them. Trolling them in the hope of pushing them to do something they're never going to be comfortable with is gross, there's no respect or love in it. I don't suppose the guys would actually address anything like that directly if they don't like it, especially if they dislike it to the point they might call an end to making the pinof videos. Drawing attention to it even in a sensible way might just blow it up more and last time Dan tried people still did it for jokes

Agreed about the PINOF tweets too. I looked through the hashtag and most of them were asking for D&P to kiss or propose to each other?? How many of those could they actually use in their video, I wonder. I thought it has been like this all the time though - I'm not sure since in previous years I never really looked through the tags. Then again, no one can really police the Internet anyway so people go ahead and say whatever they want. i think it's especially hard for Youtubers because their job is the Internet so they have no choice but to be confronted with all the wild stuff that is online all the time, which frankly would drive me insane if I were in their position - props to them for continuing! I would feel rather sad if they stopped PINOF though if it isn't fun for them then it won't be that great for us to watch either.

[offtopic]ok so i was just watching Dils Honeymoon video and I found something weird and please correct me if im wrong or if im missing something but...
at the beginning, they start off with 2,636 simoleons. when they go to the bar with dil and tabitha at 14:48 they have 2,555, right? then they zoom in on the choices to tell a sim to go away, to get out of the seat next to Dil, and when they zoom back out again at 15:14 they have 3,241? where did they get that money? literally like 20 seconds after they buy drinks at the bar, they have 700 more simoleons? or do the sims get paid when they take a vacation day and im just being stupid?
sorry this confused me i was like?? where did the money apparate from? unless they got paid and didn't leave it in and then that's it. very off topic i apologise lol[/offtopic]

Agree with different take on humour for different people. I also find his comment to be hilarious because he is breaking the fourth wall over there by addressing us, the fandom directly. Like he knows we gonna gif that moment because we are trash and he is poking fun at that. Aka he know we know situation.

TBH I don't need a coming out video, at the BONCAS you can just see how much they love each other, you could feel the love bouncing off them.
I really don't know how anyone can even say Dan was in a bad mood during the ls, like I said before I found his comments hilarious. I found them both super relaxed too.

Phil is also flourishing so fast it's hard to keep up, he becomes realer to me by the day, but it doesn't feel like watching the same movie as Dan's. their energy is balancing one another at the moment, and they are so very lucky to have that (and I think they know it and that is where the urgency and fondness still springs from). the one thing I relish more than watching two people who just work together is watching an individual come into their own, though. on their own terms, no apologies.
mermaid blood, I don’t have anything thoughtful to add right now but your commentary has given me a lot to think about when it comes to the whole growth/2017 branding discussion.
I know I’m a bit late but I just wanted to chime in and say that the joint ls, while nothing revolutionary, made me very calm and happy. There was something very warm and comforting about them both showing up and banting away on a late autumn holiday afternoon and I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Re: rude/snappy dan. I mean, I can see how some of his language and commentary can rub people the wrong way, but for me personally I tend to find it funny rather than offensive. The one thing that does stand out to me, though, is his habit of tossing things that probably shouldn’t be tossed around. In this ls alone he threw the advent calendar, his glitter jacket from the BONCAs and Phil’s phone. I can’t explain why but it makes me tense. You can even see Phil kinda check in on him when he does it.
Re: anti fanservice-on-demand. I actually think he pokes fun at it because he understands and has felt the same way sometimes (generally speaking, not just about him and Phil). He gets the impulse and is cracking wise at himself as much as all of us. While he’s not about to fully comply (and rightfully so), he’s not denying that the underlying sentiments are there as might be implied if he were just like “no.” (e.g.- he is thankful for Phil, we all know it). It’s actually a clever way to f**k with the audience a bit while pushing yourself outside of your own comfort zone and it only works from someone #relatable enough to have been on both sides. Maybe he had some inspirational chats with the likes of Felix.
P.S.- Phil. in. black. is. always. welcome. Yes, even if it is the dino shirt.
Part of me wonders what he would look like if he really went for a darker mood complete with surly expression and NOFRINGE
Careful if you try to imagine that one in your mind

I feel like, with the tweets in the hashtag, while yes many are rude, crude and really bad, this isn't anything different than from what they see in their @ mentions, comments and younow questions on a daily/weekly bases. It doesn't excuse this behavior at all, however, it does mean they are more likely to be desensitized to questions like these after seeing so many of them. I highly doubt they'll end PINOF or act differently towards eachother in the video just because a few thousand strangers asked them to do some invasive things. If that was the case, they would've ended it and anything to do with yt years ago. As long as thousands of other people send in the really dumb and silly q's, that's all they really look for, which is what people are doing anyways. (Also they can easily just blacklist certain phases/words if they really don't wanna see those type of tweets anyways.)
And maybe it's just the fact my twitter is tailored to who I follow but when I go on the top tweets, there's literally only a handful of invasive comments. The rest are filled with just the stupid questions they look for in PINOF q's.
Some fans may feel like they're entitled to troll/say this stuff because of how chill Dan and Phil have been with everything this year, and that's not a good thing to be entitled too. It's definitely not ok to ask for them to "come out" or to have them act out their weird fantasies or anything else that's in the not ok line. Certain things, like the "propose" ones or the "move" and "get a dog" ones, are clearly a joke and we all know they wouldn't do something like that in a video anyways, but it's not necessarily harmful for people to ask, IMO, but I guess could be in some kind of gray area. But not all the questions are along those lines, sure those ones may seem meh, but I have seen some really good ones and I hope they use those ones.
To wrap up this rant, I'll say this, dan and phil have been doing all this for many years now, not just PINOF, but having to deal with invasive questions throughout social media. They clearly have a way with dealing with it and it works for them. They know and we know, you can't really censor the internet, people feel entitled to say vile things even though they shouldn't. They could easily ask for people not to send in questions like that, but people will have a meltdown and claim "it's 2012 all over again!!" Or they'll just do it anyways. There's not much they can actually do about the situation, unfortunately.
