Lol I thought condoms too. But no, that is a really lovely dream.lishachi wrote:Excited for the liveshow today. Maybe gaming vid will be tonight/tomorrow? I'd love some Golf with Friends![]()
I had a dream about deppy for I think the first time ever, as I was lurking on here before I fell asleep in an hour long nap. The dream consists of me hanging out with them and them looking super happy together. Ignore this if you don't particularly want to read!
I dunno, I think he was quite pleased with the Tinder video and that it was received. It doesn't feel like he wants to avoid it like 'The Memeing of Life'. I understand giving it a week to feel out reactions and yeah maybe he wants to avoid people's the initial shock over the gender selection...somethingsketchy wrote:I was totally expecting a gaming video yesterday because I thought Dan would want to create as big a buffer as possible between the Tinder video and his liveshow in order to avoid talking about the video as long as possible. However, I realised there is actually quite a lot for him to talk about even without a new gaming video, what with Phil's latest video, Colin, Wimbledon, Tom's video and, like, the Spider-Man movie and surely something else I've forgotten about.
edit: There is also the Danthony collab. How could I have forgotten about that?
[offtopic]Oh dear I just remember that one of my dreams last night featured Dan as well and it had to do with labels on some form of social media. He hyped it up as a new feature and something revealing, but they ended up being a jumble of obscure words in little colored bubbles that constantly changed and didn't really seem to say anything about him (I remember something about chins?! And maybe grass... Milkshake perhaps? (That showed up later in a dream, trying to recreate Dan's butterscotch and white Maltesers confection, but the shake shop didn't have any of that somit ended up being bourbon peach.) But 'sub' was in there and I was waiting to see if 'dom' also turned up because it seemed like all the words were being contradicted by their dualites.) In my dream my sister said she didn't understand and I just replied that he's a troll.[/offtopic]
Um anyway ls! Yeah he will have plenty to talk about. I expect him to tell us that they filmed a new gaming video "earlier today" that will be up tomorrow (or god forbid Friday). So we have ls, gaming, ls. Please. We've already rewatched both golfing videos several times, but I'm willing to do it again to give it that extra push, lol.
Oh! Well that explains it! Dan could do a solo game... but whatever, I can be patient. Miming Phil would be pretty great. Poor Phil.

Oh dear, poor Phil! I'll let him off not releasing any DAPG for what feels like ages but hope he makes a speedy recovery...golf would be a nice, relaxed, chilled return to gaming, just saying!
No ls for me tonight as I'm off to see Spiderman with my eldest! Will compare notes with what Dan has to say about it when I get back.

Interesting interpretation of labels in that dream, autumnhearth.
Also poor Phil. Ouch. When did he have laryngitis before? He was ill on tour, but was it that? He managed through it if it was, and it affects yours throat so badly I'm thinking it must have been another time. Gaming videos on hold while the poor bean recovers, though if Dan wanted to make one solo where he squees over one of his favourite games like host old Pokemon video, I'd be all for it.

My only question is, how has he managed to get random laryngitis again?! The first time was right before they went to Japan for literally no reason. And now, it's happened yet again. Out of everyone, I'm surprised it's Phil getting it, even though Dan's the one constantly screaming in every video for no reason.Susannah wrote:

I've gotten laryngitis for no reason on several occasions. You don't even need to be sick or have a cold. It's just an inflammation of the vocal chords, which can have a very quick onset. Last time I had it, I was fine before I went to lunch and by supper I had no voice at all. It's dumb and annoying.confusedpanda wrote:My only question is, how has he managed to get random laryngitis again?! The first time was right before they went to Japan for literally no reason. Dan's reply tweet reminds me that very early on in my husband's watching of he suggested that the gaming channel should be called "Dan and/or Phil Games" with more opportunity for solo game play. Then he actually watched said solo play and other individual content (or goodness forbid collabs with other people) and he got all whiny (and jealous) proclaiming that they're better together. When I brought up his earlier suggestion recently he didn't believe he ever said such a thing. Honestly. (What is it with straight men in their 30s objectifying two... jk.) Personally I liked Shelter and Pokémon and Dan playing Outlast home alone was hilarious.

What video would you actually like to see Dan make? I feel like there's always a lot of conversation around what we don't want to see from Dan (ISG) but since his videos are so rare I think most of us just wait until he's hinted to start guessing, and don't really sit around making a list of other things we're eager for him to do.

I'm not sure I can think of anything specific, but his sketch style, comic timing and sharp observational humour was what made me laugh and love him and his clever brain, he was the best YouTuber I found back then and he's still one of the best. Observations or opinions on something current. His storytimes and fails are all up there too, though I thought he did that Pom Bear video really well even if he described it as random or something from a phase.
If he wanted to ever be more open and serious, I'd be up for that, though it wouldn't fit with his channel, I guess that's one reason we have liveshows. On the longshot front, singing. If he trained up his falsetto that would be particularly interesting, could do some good duets with Phil's baritone.

Mostly second what flarequake said about storytimes and sketches (I think he does these better than broader abstract topics, even though I do want to hear his thoughts on deeper subjects. I'm sure he could refine these though.) I'm not great at coming up with topics for other people to discuss, but of the things he's mentioned I would love to see a seven deadly sins video. Does anyone recall what he said about (not) doing a dentist video?
I would love more content on his side channel, things he mentioned in his last ls, like things that keep him grounded. I'm always up for lighter content on the side chans if that takes off the pressure. I think that would be the ideal place for duets
Oh! A video on high/secondary school bullying. That's what I want. Though I realize it would probably be a big jumble of emotion and tones. It's a serious subject, but I would expect it to have some mildly funny skits and ending with a heart warming message.
What would you like to see alittledizzy?

there have been so many new members to the phandom just in the past 3 years and it's easy to forget how original dan's content was at the time. i remember watching his stuff in 2011 and thinking it was unlike anything i had ever seen before on YT- especially his early 2012 work. later in 2012 is when he started getting the massive spike in views. the only way i can describe it is "layered. the different sketches, asides, monologues, visuals, photoshops etc -it was always very visually stimulating.flarequake wrote:I'm not sure I can think of anything specific, but his sketch style, comic timing and sharp observational humour was what made me laugh and love him and his clever brain, he was the best YouTuber I found back then and he's still one of the best. sooo many people have riffed off a style that was very, very danisnotonfire™ - to the extent that is kind of became the new "norm" for a while. it's kind of cool if anyone has time to go back and look at YTers 2011-2012 stuff and see how people have changed.
i once waffled on about what kind of stuff i think dan could do - but it would all involve publicly "taking yourself seriously" which is the most risky and vulnerable thing to do. YT audiences can be finicky - and also a lot of YTers who take themselves tricky are super annoying. it's a fine line

Tbh, I don't even really have anything I specifically want Dan to do. I was just curious because people definitely seem to have a standard for Phil's content that Phil doesn't live up to but it's usually very specific: people with complaints want him to return to a level of creativity he used to show, or to be more adult, or to tell stories they can relate to more. And with the gaming channel it's obviously very easy to have ideas for what you want them to play because most people have opinions on video games.autumnhearth wrote:What would you like to see alittledizzy?
But with Dan I feel like there's far more people just curious about what direction Dan will go in, rather than judging every new video by some previously set standard. Dan himself pretty much has the freedom to decide what direction he goes in, and we end up judging how disappointing the content is based on how much Dan himself hypes them. There is a lot of supportive excitement for new types of content from him, instead of mostly just wishing he'd go back to what he used to make.

Personally, I love his topic videos. "Psycho Thoughts", "How not to stay cool", "What not to do at the beach", "My greatest Fear", "What no to do on public transport", "Audience Participation Fear", those are my favorite Dan videos ever, and I rewatch them constantly. This was the kind of content that attracted me to him in the first place. But I understand that he doesn't like to make the same video twice (I think he said so in a liveshow), but I would like an update or part 2 on some of these.alittledizzy wrote:What video would you actually like to see Dan make? His anecdotes are the best as well. I love how he tells stories ("The story of my Hamster", "The time I got sunstroke", even the "Bahamas Disaster"). But then again that would mean more unfortunate things would have to happen so he can make another one,
I don't know where I'm going with this, sorry. I just clearly still miss the topic videos

I kinda want him to do some videos playing the piano, at least on his side channel since it probably wouldn't fit on the main channel.

Oh yes please. I watch a compilation vid of him playing piano all the time. It just seems so relaxing for him.onetruetrash wrote:I kinda want him to do some videos playing the piano, at least on his side channel since it probably wouldn't fit on the main channel.

Agreeing with yellowsubmarine here to say that those topic videos are some of my favorites. I will still go back and rewatch Psycho Thoughts and What not to do at the cinema. I think those videos are the ones that originally drew the large crowds to dan, and i have seen a lot of people saying they want dan to make more videos like that now.yellowsubmarine wrote:Personally, I love his topic videos. But like dizzy said, I'm personally looking forward to whatever he puts out because at this point I'm watching for insight into dan.
plus i just never bother to believe the hype, so it doesn't bother me at all

I'm personally waiting for the "important things that keep me emotionally grounded" video on his side channel he joked about in a liveshow, or a candle haul video.
But I also agree that people are more ok with Dan going in whatever direction, whereas they want Phil to return to his 2009 weirdness. But I also really loved Dan's 2012ish vids when he'd cover a topic with ranting, sketches, anecdotes, and jokes. So idk... I think I just want them to make whatever they enjoy, because I don't want them to become bored/resentful of YouTube. They could both just turn into react channels and I honestly wouldn't mind.

I personally would like Dan to stop whatever he is doing now whether he’s imitating pewdiepie's random phase or experimenting with his new old brand. I think a good idea for him would be to let us know him better as he is now. He has changed his look – tell us why, give us a parody OOTD 2017 edition. He said he had trouble making videos even though he wanted to upload more – elaborate on this. No need to be 100% transparent, make it sarcastic and funny. Talk about youtube conventions and what he likes and doesn’t like about them, and funny stories. Tips on how to be a co-presenter on stage and hold audience's attention, what's the preparation process. Share which political podcasts, reddits, magazines he likes and why. Make a guide on how to survive on tour for 3 months. Advice on how to rent a flat and types of landlords etc.
Also he should scrap all video ideas that are 2 years old even if they seemed genius at the time lol.

Those are some good ideas, vincentian.
I think the difference between them is that Phil makes more lighthearted videos and left his phase of deeper creativity as a phase, but we know what he's capable of and we're still interested so it'd be great to see more of that. We still see it in the books and tour, he channels it differently now, but still there's more stories in him.
With Dan he's been more consistent in keeping the same styles of videos going over quite a few years. They've both got to make what they want to, though, and feel comfortable with it, hard to be creative without that.
And goodness, yes, the piano. He might not be a virtuoso, but he plays good pieces and he plays them well.

I am not a merch person at all, but what do you guys think of the plushies? I can't help but find them a bit weird Sure, the photo contest results were really funny but definitely not my thing.
I am not judging, but if someone has them - what was your motivation to buy them? Because they are cute to look at like normal (animal) plushies, because it's funny and rAnDoM like the masks, to support the boys, or for another reason?

I bought them because I don't understand the concept of uncluttered shelves and not having dumb little knickknacks strewn about. And real talk: I'm going to buy the next 'season' of them so I can sew buttons on the eyes of the earlier ones to make them go Full Coraline because what I need in my life is more nightmares.LtrllySusan wrote: I am not a merch person at all, but what do you guys think of the plushies? (but actual main reason is I just think they're cute and want to support people who give me enjoyable free content financially when I'm able to which depending on the day also just means i have poor impulse control with money but shh)
Thanks and have a great day! Oil me

I'm not sure if 'gay baiting' was a thing as such but it was very common that 'boys that kiss boys' videos on MySpace were VERY popular amongst the emo community (I say that having been a part of that community during that time). Most of the 'bulletins' that people put up on MySpace were links to those kinds of videos and people made them to get MySpace requests.demonpanda wrote:OFF TOPIC:
I'm really curious that is gay baiting a thing in 2009 and 2010 in western countries?
Because I grow up in Asia and all I can remember is that people only use gayish thing to gain attention in anime or manga but not in real life. In fact most people still thought lgbt is a bad thing and didnt want to talk about it at that time.
Re the plushies:
They're not my thing tbh,if they had made them squishy and cute maybe, but personally don't like them (& I own a pair as someone thought I would like them for Christmas). I hope the tatinof option wins as that was an iconic moment in their history.

I like the idea of the plushies, even though I didn't actually buy them. Merch doesn't always need to serve a specific reason, I think it's okay for them to just make things that are cute. Don't understand the appeal of the pastel edits ones, though. I feel like that's just them banking on the pastel trend in general - mostly since you change the hair and clothes of the plushies so drastically and they're not really distinguishable as Dan and Phil. If I were voting, I'd vote pyjamas just to see which ones they picked to have the plushies wear... but the tatinof suit ones make a lot of sense.
