About the rooms- I don't think it really means anything- they live together and have separate rooms so it's not really significant. If I wanted to get all conspiracy about it then I would agree that we didn't see personal items in Phil's room- all very tight camera shots and no glimpses of his balcony or bathroom. Could be its not his room, he could be dating one of the tour managers that was with them at the wildlife park, or the boys could just be trying to gaslight us by having separate rooms on the day they planned to film because it's not like they decided to do this ditl spontaneously and they know we are on to them. Who knows still didn't take away from the cute.

Ok, that's out of the way now. It's perfectly reasonable for them to not share beds, but I just find it weird to not share a room. Regardless of how rich you are, if you're traveling with your best friend (mind you, a best friend you can't spend 5 seconds apart from), why would you get separate rooms? I just find that strange. I'm not too serious about them lying. They could very well be in different rooms. I just don't understand why? Even if platonic, it doesn't make sense.

I've had time to think about this and the only logistical thing would have to be the jet lag? Phil might wake up early than Dan so even if they had a twin room, Phil would've woke Dan up and Dan wouldn't have been happy. Especially with room service. Also, is Dan still coughing? If so that could be a very vailed excuse to not share a room with someone. Another thing is that the hotel didn't offer a two bedroom suite and because of that, had to settle for two rooms because of one of the two possiblities listed above.
Or it could be that they just got the room for that night because they knew they were filming a ditl that day, who knows? All I know is, I'm not doubting them as much as I was and I'm not as confused.

This was my very first thought. If they are, in fact, in separate rooms, this was planned in advance. They new that Koala day would be a DITL.

Omg that was incredible, I felt like I was watching a home movie like the whole time. Like, mooching around a wildlife park and rolling around on the floor felt very much like the content one of my family's home movies would have. Amaaaaazing. Loads of little natural laughs and chill vibes, but still really funny - 10/10.

It takes a LOT to make me doubt they're together these days, and this video did. I actually had to pause it when he was knocking on Dan's door like... oh wow. And then I was thinking in my phan-centric universe how could I justify them sleeping in separate rooms without sounding like a delusional shipper, and I couldn't. That hotel offers two-double-bed rooms so its not like their hand was forced by the fear of someone finding out they shared a king room with separate rooms being the only alternative.

I don't really buy the 'wanted some space' explanation - if you take a step back, its kind of reaching. Don't get me wrong, I wanna reach too, but realistically I don't think that's likely particularly for them.

So I tried to watch the rest of the video in the 'they're just friends' mindset and its so weird?? It may just be years of my perception going a different way but I just really struggle to read them as platonic.

That lead me on to thinking that wow, eventually one day they may well move out separately and how weird that will be and just ...????? wtf someone talk me down

I really enjoyed that vid! I love animals and yesterday I went to a place like the one they visited so it was a really nice surprise for me

All the Phil shots in this vid tho I love him so much, that boy can't look bad. The angel moment omg and I also adored them with koalas, Dan was such a cutie and Phil looked so excited. I know I would feel the same, life goals for sure!

I feel like there wasn't that much going on as in the japan ditl but I guess they really didn't have time/energy to go to a lot of places like on that one. It did warm my heart that they were dining and watching their tv shows together just like at home. Whatever they are, I admire it as I'm sure I would have murdered my friend/partner if I spent so much time with them.

I feel the same as Lurktacularr, I really don't want to justify the room situation because I feel like I'm reaching too much. Home movie vibe is a great description, that was the sweetest, fluffiest video they've possibly ever made. I still can't quite believe I just saw Dan herding geese and Phil hopping alongside a kangaroo (what's wrong with their pronunciation of emu btw? That's how I say it too). Dan holding koala, Dan holding baby, the only difference is the fur and claws.

I'm intrigued by Dan lying on the floor with his feet up on the bed as if he's relaxing his hip flexor muscles. I have lower back trouble and I'm meant to do that as the hip flexors get too strong from overwork and the muscles that are meant to be working just sit there getting weak. I don't just roll backwards without a care, though, that would not help things.

Room situation could be any of many reasons. Maybe they don't want to fuel the ship fire, even want to quell it, or haven't thought about it either way and just wanted their own space what with jetlag, coughing, who knows. I tend to go along with them being together and not much sways me either way. Whatever's going on or not, with how they've tried to cover it up, then stopped that and relaxed, who knows what's real and what's easy to misinterpret? I haven't much energy for trying to figure it out, I just find them adorable and watch everything they upload with the fondest smile the whole time

Also last night one of my rl friends discovered how addictive they can be. Yay Pokemon, she's been playing it and was bored so my "I'd recommend YouTube but I get watching tall geeks chasing Pokemon isn't for everyone", accidental reverse-psychology ftw.

I'll admit I thought we were seeing a loosening of their grip on the 'bros and roommates TRUE' company line recently, but then the unfortunate (to me) bus tweets happened right before starting a large US tour. So I've pushed that idea away, they're going strong with the 'we're friends' for the time being. (Which isn't even a lie, whatever else they may or may not be, they're friends). Now this is the video people will look at as a little capsule in time of their Australian leg of the tour.

So many new people will be coming over into the Dan and Phil world once the tour video and documentary are released, right? More eyes. If they didn't want to say they were more than friends to the audience they already had, why would they want to announce it to a whole new group of people just falling into the rabbit hole? Also, who the hell are they touring with right now, outside of Martyn/Cornelia/Mgr-Lady? We don't know the crew, D&P probably aren't that close with them. Why not get two rooms for keeping up appearances with strangers and to establish their narrative in the DITL vid they knew they would be filming? People flipped the fuck out analysing the bed situation in their last DITL (Japan), people have been creepy trying to analyse the bus-bed situation on the US tour (even after they so indelicately brought up the issue themselves... good one guys). "Hey Dan, how about we just shut this shit down before it starts and clearly just have two rooms?" "K." Nobody can say they pushed the beds together, nobody can question the shower situation, they drew a clear line. For noobs, nothing 'questionable' to see here.

For me it doesn’t really matter if they actually didn’t share a room or went through a lot of effort to make it appear like they didn’t share one, it left a bad taste in my mouth. I felt like it was a very deliberate showing by them, very in contrast to what happened in the DITL Japan one.
Every time I think they are opening up more, they go ahead and take steps back. It just gets a bit tiring.

Still enjoyed the video, because how I can I not with so many cute animals. Also I thought that Phil was looking very good.

When Dan opens the door, we can see his MacBook on the bed, as well as what it seems to be an iPhone being charged. But then...Dan checks the time with his iPhone. What's the thing on the bed, then? Or does Dan own a "work" iPhone and a "personal" iPhone? Or someone was in the room before?



- THE CONTACT LENS SOLUTION?

There is a small white and blue bottle of what it seems to be a contact lens solution on Dan's room, on the corner the table next to the door. Can't think of anyone who uses contact lenses...oh, wait. Of course, this is purely speculation and I might be horrendously wrong, so place your bets.

As much as I enjoy DITL videos and think they are full of very genuine D&P moments there are also elements to them which are obviously very set-up and Phil awaking in the t shirt he wore all day and having breakfast solo before checking if Dan was awake & wanted to eat with him was one of them. For one it's called a DITL of Dan and Phil and two when planning to spend the day with someone surely it's more practical to see if they're hungry before you eat yourself so you don't get stuck waiting for them to order and eat their breakfast after you've had yours.

So yeah there is no way Phil had not already interacted with Dan that morning before he went to "check" if Dan was awake on camera.

And while I don't know what to think about the room situation I do think they were making an effort to ensure their was no room for speculation on the room situation... like Phil focusing on the different wall pictures.... perhaps he just liked the art... perhaps he wanted to make sure no conspiracy theories that it was all one room reared there heads.

so many feelings in just one video. i am overwhelmed.
even though i have no right to, i was actually a bit angry and dissapointed seeing the two separate rooms. my shipper heart was broken

and then seeing them in the park with all the animals Everything was cute. so adorable and funny. phil was so breathtaking beautiful in the natural light. the scenes with the koala, the kangaroo and the bird chasing phil killed me. so cute. i love phil and i love animals. even dan was kind of cute in some moments. DITL are the only content we get to see glimpses of him without his ugly persona. it happens only once a year for me to like dan but the little antiphan devil inside me was trying to ruin it, my phan heart was still aching

and to finish me off the last 8 minutes with them hanging out in dans bedrooms together for no reason and acting like enamored idiots. Suddenly everything was fine phan is real and i am just waiting the moment they buy a house, a dog and have a baby

Nah I actually agree with you. When I first watched I was just kind of consumed by the surprise of it, but per my last post having watched again, something does seem off about it.

My suspicion is slightly different to yours - from the weird choppy, close-range shots (and clearly set up to some extent re him already being dressed when he 'just woke up') and from the fact we never go back into that room at any point in the video, the theory I would lean more towards is that it was Martyn and Cornelia's room and they didn't actually get separate rooms at all. They got a normal double, knew they couldn't shoot the opener in there so went 'I'm just gonna lie on their bed and do the intro, brb'.

As I say, still not convinced at all, I wish they'd just start the vid a little later in the day and avoid all this, but who knows

eh, idk if i just got too hyped seeing the title 'a day in the life' bc after watching i didn't think it was that great. it was pretty uneventful but i still enjoyed watching it, seeing them move about in the world.

i knew phil showing their separate rooms would upset some people on here. even my non-phan-believer heart was a lil disappointed. lately they seemed to have been leaving things a little vague but two rooms was v clear message.

So thoughts on the video:

- Them in the wildlife park was sooooo cute, I love seeing them with animals

- Seriously how did they not know it was gonna be cold, it's winter...

- ...actually I don't even have any more thoughts on this video even though I really enjoyed it

Regarding the room situation:

Tbh I did think the beginning was a bit annoying/forced (but I guess phil wanted to show us his pancakes ) - I wouldn't be that bothered about them not sharing rooms though cause they usually do in hotels. (Maybe this time someone else booked for them, or they booked late, or those were the best rooms available - who knows)

I'm another one who thinks it could be possible that Phil was filming in Martyn and Cornelia's room and that both they and had double beds - which wouldn't even be weird from a friendship point of view but obviously that's not something Dan and Phil would ever admit to
