Saw a discussion earlier about nail polish vs curly hair, i just want to put my two cents out here, of why i think these two are different things and why one deserve encouragement the other don't.

So basically the reason dan keeps his hair always straightened is because himself find that look unfaltering, despite the phandom always going crazy for hobbit dan, he's lack of confidence is the main reason behind this, but recently he changed his mind and decide to not straighten his hair from time to time, which of course is a good news for the hobbit hair lovers but also a sign of him gaining more confidence, ultimately whether it's because he changed his mind all because himself or other's compliment, it's less inrelevante in this case, cuz the result is positive.

On the other hand, the nail polish thing, he's always been ambiguous about and showed no enthusiasm at all, he said in liveshow he might do it but he doesn't have the remover, which to me sounds kinda reluctant. But whether he did it cuz he's actually willing to or do it to please fans, under a sea of fangirl's demand still makes me very uncomfortable, maybe cuz i'm a hippie and see him as conformist, or maybe because the demand itself is very questionable at the first place.

Also i think the reason he painted it just because he's annoyed not only ppl annoy him online but also annoy him irl especially stalker chase him to the airport to give him a fucking nail polish, he just wanted to get it over with.

Also also, exactly how juvenile are ppl, just fucking stop.

literally fucking laughed my arse off at dan painting his nails - re: the discussion a while ago, i hope some posters here aren't too traumatised by his 'stubby' hands and caving to the horrible 'pressure' of all those bully fans with bottles of polish. poor dan, #pray for dan 2k16.

(he looks fabulous, hair and weird androgynous jumper too- rooting for this burst of confidence! and if he decides he thinks he looks ugly or polish in particular isn't for him, who cares? it's called EXPERIMENTATION)

the DITL was so lovely. it was nice to see them genuinely excited. fail to see how sleeping in different rooms (especially when one has pneumonia and jetlag) makes a statement on any personal relationship dynamic, but i guess that's just the name of the game while they play the ambiguity card. it will be all anyone ever focuses on. they know this by now, and it's pretty difficult to criticise people for being fascinated.

because i'm a being a bit of a cunt during this post i may as well roll with it - the only part i rolled my eyes at was them harassing kangaroos who were trying to rest and feed. Grade A Dumb Tourist behaviour and i thought they were better than that. (i'll forgive them as i think they know embarrassingly little about Australia and animal behaviour of territorial animals, and they weren't trying to harm, just a bit too enthusiastic.)

I just saw their show yesterday in Melbourne and Dan's posture was so bad during the show I wanted to run onto the stage and shove his shoulders back. Phil's posture was surprisingly okay.

I'm probably going to do a write up on the melb show on the tatinof thread sometime soon but the only thing I guess relevant to the main thread is that it was obvious during the show that Dan is still sick. When he was yelling or speaking loudly his voice would crack and fade. Other than that he seemed relatively okay!

just wanted to quickly acknowledge i was there last night too (we may have brushed by each other! i was in row L) and from the first 30 seconds i noticed Dan's posture and voice also. it looked to me like that typical tall-person self-consciousness, more prominent in teenagers though and you generally expect adults to have grown out of it. however i think i also interpret some of his stance to just the inherent mannerisms and slight effeminateness i observed. (eg. being more folded into one's body and minimising the space taken up vs. masculine spreading and wide gesturing)

I don't think it suits him either, but that might be because I still have to get used to it.
And yeah I too find it interesting that there has been very little talk from the phandom to get Phil to paint his nails.

Hi all. First time poster but long time lurker.

I've only just gotten around to watching the DITL. I quite enjoyed it. I think it will be hard to top the Christmas DITL tbh. My personal favourite part was drinking milk out of wine glasses on the balcony. I found that hilariously relatable. Other parts I loved were the koala trying to get closer to the food, Reacting to the dingos and of course all of the animal interactions

Re: Nailpolish
I kind of want to see how long it lasts before he gets rid of it. I know I love nail polish for a day but then it starts chipping and it takes me two weeks before I actually remember to take it off. I guess I just wonder how good he will be with up-keep

I was at the Melbourne Matinee show and didn't really notice anything wrong with Dans voice, but I did want to tell him to stand up straight a few times

I was pleasantly surprised when I woke up to a DITL notif. (By pleasantly I mean I ran around the house screaming like a headless chicken). I finally calmed down enough to watch the video and was bombarded with no phano phil and straight no homo bros that don't even eat breakfast together. While you guys were doubting phan I was laughing my ass off on how hard they try to push the bed situation and how shady phil acted. Usually in a DITL dorky phil would show us his mismatched socks and give us a room or bathroom tour or something. This time we got nothing except a close up of his (admittedly sexy) face and pancakes. They pushed platonic bros so hard that Dan didn't even change in front of Phil but went to the bathroom even though phil literally straddled dan to film his recent shirtless bed scenes for DINOF

Moving on from the "4 minutes that must not be named" the video was lovely. Dan with the koala will forever be ingrained in my head and heart. Also Phil was so adorable and scared whine holding the koala like he would hurt it and his voice even cracked a bit. This is closest we'll see of them holding their future babies ). The other animals were so adorable especially the little white paw on dans hand. I'm just happy we got a phan zoo vlog since the last one phil did was with charlie (amazingskies rise)!

Some phil loving: he looked so gorgeous in this especially in the angel shot and when he was eating jerky. His legs, eyes, bird feeding stance, even his baby kim k booty made the video amazing

The ending of the video made me wonder why phil even get a seperate room if he was going to spend the while day in dans room. Their reactions to each other's photos were precious. Props to Dewey for posing so amazingly as well Overall cute video that left my phan heart intact but my suspicious spidey senses tingling.

Honestly we will never understand deppys relationship or why they choose to act this way to prevent anyone from suspecting otherwise. Maybe they were scarred when phil sent pics of the hotel room in Japhan to prove they weren't sharing or maybe the they want to prevent causal viewers from suspecting otherwise To me deppy are two directors that choose what props would be seen in the film and what scenes make the cut. It's all constructed to make us feel one way or another and in this case the message was clear even though I don't believe it. At the end if the day the purpose of the video was to entertain and it did that so I left it with a smile on my face

All I have to say about this boring nail polish discussion rehash is that Dan can make his own decisions, and is capable of ignoring popular phandom topics (e.g. younow chat spam). Painting his nails doesn't necessarily mean he was pressured into it. Could the gifts and requests have been a contributing factor? Yes. Would he have done it if he didn't want to? I'm going to trust Dan's character and say no.

I didn't much care about the topic before. However, now that I've seen his nails actually painted, I think it looks nice on him.

I agree with mayhem, as a clumsy person I've had to visit a&e a few times and I've always had a friend or family member with me, I'd have to be in an ambulance to go there on my own because it's basically an episode of Jeremy Kyle minus the bouncers plus some booze in a&e after a certain time, with all the normal people cringing and trying not to make eye contact with whoever the 'star of the show' is

Anyhoo, DITL was adorable, yes the beginning felt forced (I laughed for 5 minutes at whoever said Phil is either a liar or a smelly bastard for saying he woke up in that tshirt ) but the rest seemed fairly sweet, only things I saw that don't seem to have been mentioned was Phil calling Dan Danny again which always makes me aww, and phils trainers must have some kind of magic spell on them because two minutes into being in that park I'd have annhilated them if I was him yet they stayed pristine for him, I'm mildly jealous of his witchcraft. Nail polish was predictable, I give it a day before its chipped af (you just know he hasn't put topcoat on) and then the search for remover will provide a days worth of tweets in itself.

All of this made sense when they were in ambiguity perspective. I very much want to be talked off the anti-phan ledge right now, but the "I have my own room/Dan has his" parts of the video are very intentional. Are they there to

- hide their relationship? - what was wrong with blurry ambiguity? It's worked for 7 years
- set boundaries that their relationship is off-limits or that they don't owe us anything? 100% agree they don't owe us anything, but why be so deliberate instead of the usual intentionally blurry. Lbr, the hotel scenes were not central to the theme and did not have to be in the video at all and people would have loved it. That would have been the best way to set the "off limits" boundary.
- they really aren't together? - Dan's been more forthright about not being straight. Maybe they are starting to pave the way for coming out as "not together". Because deps as a couple is such a huge part of the phandom, maybe they want people to accept them dating other people and not loose too many fans.

I honestly don't know. Just a theory. But the hotel scenes were deliberate. So if it's not to clarify "we aren't together", then it's a lie. If t's a lie, then for what purpose? What purpose that ambiguity doesn't already work for?

They have been seeming so much more relaxed and coupley lately maybe they needed that little boost in the platonic direction to even the playing field a bit. I do admit that I have (for some reason) been in the "just platonic bros" area for a little while as of late and the obvious 2 room situation threw me. Why now all of a sudden do they do this?

They have TATINOF coming up on Youtube Red in a couple of months, and from what I heard of it, it caters to the shippy side of the phandom. Until now, the show was only seen by very dedicated followers of theirs, but it will be available for the more casual viewers very soon. so maybe in order to keep up the image the more casual viewers have of them, they think they need to reestablish themselves as just platonic friends to counteract the impact of TATINOF.

Re: nails. I don't know if he really stopped biting his nails so he'd be able to paint them, maybe it was the other way round - I usually stop biting them when travelling, so the first time I painted my nails was when they grew out after a holiday and I wanted to keep them that way. Couldn't keep up with painting my nails because it is a pain in the ass, but although it didn't completely cure my nailbiting, after weeks of not being able to bite them due to the nail polish I don't do it as much anymore.

I'm back! Don't know if anyone of you still knows me, but yeah.

The DITL was ok, not my favourite of them. I liked that Cornelia and Martyn were in it, I don't know why, but I kinda love Cornelia. She's a great singer and her voice is amazing. That's why her laugh is so beautiful, too.
Anyway, they've destroyed my favourite acitivity: finding out their hotel. Three minutes into the video, I had found it on TripAdvisor, only to see that Dan gives it away towards the end of the video. And f**k, it's expensive.

Also, this ruined the fun for finding out their rooms. I'm still unsure if it were two separate rooms or rooms that both belong to the Junior Suite.

I find the ongoing discussion quite interesting. Dan is out to me, implicitly, Phil stays vague. I have written it before, there would be no benefit from coming out (if they are a thing, blablabla, I know it's controversial), apart from maybe not needing to 'hide' anymore. Ambiguity about their relationship keeps
a) the speculations, fans and views and
b) their (sort of) privacy.
Coming out would open up a whole different realm, without even getting into the whole what light that would shine on their past, but people would feel even more entitled to speculate on their relationship, if a romantic one would be validated.

In addition to the privacy aspect, I'd guess that they both don't want to become 'that gay youtuber couple', as that could turn into a major definition of them and they wouldn't want their content about their sexuality/relationship only. Yes, being out seems like it would free them in a certain way, but in their case, it would most likely restrict them (if that makes sense....I hope you get what I'm trying to say).

Honestly, I'm ok with how they are presenting their relation to one another. As long as they don't leash out or extremely queerbait, I don't see a problem.

That being said whether it's casual dating or being completely alone that Dan has going on I still don't get why DINOF isn't blabbering on about being a lonesome singleton who'll probably die alone for #relatable bants. For me avoiding the topic all together makes me suspect he has someone.

Orrr he knows that pushing "phan isn't actually a thing" too much might again jeopardize his career which blossomed in large part thanks to all the shipping. So finding that balance is more important than checking all the #relatable boxes

Maybe he's keeping that part of his life private, because he knows that mentioning his being single is going to open the gates for speculation about future relationships. People would always wait for him to stop saying he's single to know when exactly that changes. I wouldn't want my love life that public either. IMO he seems like the kind of person who would think about that.

All they've done since after 2009/10 is deny phan. They call themselves besties and roommates and when asked directly they deny. They've just stopped offering that info when unwanted, possibly because the phandom didn't believe it and sometimes reacted hostile.

Anything they've done since then is only interpreted as flirtatious or "couply" by you. Just because you perceive it as that doesn't mean it's intended by them.

And i'm a bit thrown by someone saying that they should just move out to show they are not a couple (can't find the comment anymore, did i make that up?). it's not their job to live their lives in a way that doesn't lead anyone on. That feels like a random guy at the office accusing me of leading him on just because i try to be polite and i don't like it.

But i generally disagree with what seems to be the consensus here, that everything they do, every blink and twitch is somehow planned to make us think something specific. I don't doubt that much of what they do is planned/scripted, i just don't take it as far as most of you

I agree, the implication was defo that the rough Mancunian locals (jk having been to A&E in Manc in the middle of the night they're not that bad) would see them as being gay - it's not that deep though as he was obviously just making a joke rather than actually implying much about his sexuality.

Anyway regarding the nails, it's quite sweet but definitely not worthy of the freakout on twitter
I don't think he's particularly interested in painting his nails but equally I don't think he's been 'bullied into it' or anything - it's just a fun little thing that he knows fans would like. (And seeing as they keep gifting him nail varnish he might as well make use of it )
