The fact is, there's very little to engage with about their videos that's appreciative where most audience appreciation lies in their humor, their chemistry, and their relationship. If they wanted content to be analyzed and appreciated for its form, they will make content that adheres to that. They are currently happy with the content they make, as it suits them, and also appeals to the majority of their audience. They are not behaving in a way that is pandering, nor does their audience bully them into this behaviour. What you see is their joined decision on how to behave, what content they put out, and what kind of entertainment they want to make. Just plain fun and bants. You simply cannot expect mature and thought-out responses to mindless entertainment like children's games and charades.

I think the underlying thing people can all agree on is Phil's glasses :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
:tu: I agree. They are SO self-aware, and I believe talented, that if they would create different content if they wanted to be appreciated for something else. I'm just thankful for who they are and what they do produce, as I am just :garbage: , and all in for watching their humor, chemistry and relationship unfold.

I loved seeing how genuinely Phil appreciates Dan's quick, dry wit.

This just made me feel so warm? He didn't try to justify it, he apologized and changed it straight away. They're good cookies guys, they really are :happytears:
Will probably never be over the BONCAS and the beauty of Phil Lester.

This genuinely makes me happy. Well done, Phil.

I have a new, soft conspiracy theory: Dan and Phil actually DID film an outro for their last video, but they saw the demand for a picture of both of them with the Christmas tree and decided to give the people what they want.

I’m a bit unsettled that he responded to something from days ago with so few likes/no retweets on it though. Do they just.. read everything? Yikes. (Obvs a good thing to see and respond to, but how)
Thanks and have a great day! Oil me

I loved the bubble bobble video! Dan turning the damsel-in-distress trope on it's head was cool. I've noticed lately deppy are so natural about talking about f/f attraction (I.E. this video and in the skyrim video where Phil thinks a lady is standing over her wife at 3:43). Idk, makes my lesbian heart happy. :prideflag:

Good on Phil for changing that thumbnail. The rising sun flag is used far too often considering it's dark past.

Also my IDB shibes mug came in! It's soooo cute!! :love2:

huh. i didn't say anything about the flag earlier bc complaining about it sounded really stupid in my head. my grandparents were put in the american japanese internment camps so ww2 is a sore subject for my family. i'm really impressed he did that.
i'm so funny. i am the funniest person in the world. ryan gosling finds me hilarious. i'm in a submarine.

Same, omg. I don't even have a twitter and I mostly interact with them on tumblr or youtube comment section. But man it's true, and boy do they get spammed a lot on twitter. Another reason why I think they're extremely self-aware of their audience and how they enjoy their content.

(Idk what I mean by "interact" because it's just me getting lost in the sea of other comments on their YT videos)

I'm glad they're changing the thumbnail to that video! Thank you, Phil.

sinister shipper your post is long so I don’t want to quote. Just wanted to say that I would’ve agreed with your post back in 2012, when they were actively discouraging people from phan. But it’s obvious the tides have turned pretty dramatically, as evidenced by the fact that THEY named the video “taste our rainbows” (with nothing to indicate that they were joking around) and that seems to be...rather encouraging, don’t you think?

So now, your post comes across like you were a phandom police member who fell asleep in 2013 and just woke up. Welcome to to the new Dan and Phil, post post baking universe, who seemingly can’t be arsed to care what people think about their relationship anymore, and welcome to IDB, where many of not most of the users here enjoy speculating and talking about their relationship.
I'd like to agree with this post. The shipping hasn't seemed to bother Dan and Phil in a long time and they've steadily accepted it more and more as time goes on. Repeating what Loafer just said, they did name the video "taste our rainbows" by choice, and mentioned lgbt topics a whole lot in it, that's not exactly something fans just made up.

Sinister Shipper, I'd like to know what you think the discussion about this video should be about if not the fact that they "alluded to" specifically talked about general lgbt topics. That's practically the whole content of the video. People join this forum to talk about their videos, and I think we should address the meat of the video.

Plus, I think it's perfectly fine for a fandom to have expectations about the creators. They're not just making videos to put in a secret diary that we happened to find, they're creating public content that they understand is developing a following, and maybe it's good that at least some of the videos they create are videos that the people who contribute to their income want to see.

They probably can’t read everything but they probably have a social media program which can do a keyword search on certain phrases. For this one they could have found it by searching ‘offensive’. I know there are lots of social media management tools to measure engagement, topics etc and if I were them I would use them. So they aren’t reading everything I dont think but they do get the trends and people lots of data on how people interact with them and their content.

Do you think we'll get a gaming stream today? I can't remember what they said, other than that they'd try and fit another one in during Gamingmas.

Bless him for doing that. I still don't like how they use Japan as such a big part of their brand and sell merch with Japanese writing because it's ~cool~ and ~aesthetic~, but it was a really pleasant surprise to see Phil do this.

Yep, they said there would be two during Gamingmas, then last week during the stream they said the second one would probably be next weekend, as in today :)

Though that doesn’t guarantee it, I think we have a pretty good chance.

Apparently just a video today! I'm glad it's another Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, though I haven't seen it yet so maybe it's crap

Really enjoyed this video, though I'm amazed at how much they hesitated with the Latin phrase, "invertebrate" and "intercostal". I guess speaking a Romance language has its perks.

About the Rainbows video: anyone else think that Dan's voice sounded like it did in his older videos? (like the first pinof, for example). It took me back.

Just like last year, the Who Wants To Be a Millionaire vid was really great fun to watch. Sadly no Kathryn this year, but we got Mimei instead.
I was quite impressed by how well they did. Too bad about the last question.
Phil wanting all the money, even if it is fake money, will never not be amusing.

I really enjoyed that video so much. Some highlights for me were:
-the pleasure Dan took in finding something that annoyed Phil
-the whole banter during the "clean and jerk" question
-Phil saying "f the audience, let's f...I mean"
-Phil getting cocky about his knowledge of animals and geography and then not being able to answer a question that included both of those.

How cute was this??? Phil especially seemed so hyper, I loved it. Their good mood is really rubbing off on me, I've been grumpy all day but this made me feel better. <3
I guess no livestream today, but maybe tomorrow? I'm sure Phil will be going home by next Saturday, so it's now or "never"...

I'm happy that they did another Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, since I really liked last year's video. I enjoyed it and thought that part where they called Mimei was cute, as well as the fact that Dan apparently borrowed Phil's parka seven years ago and lost it

I really enjoyed this! I like it when the gameplay is actually exciting. Also love that Dan brings up Guild Wars for the moa question, but then fails to know how to craft bronze ingots in the game (copper + tin).

I think this is the best video they've done all gamingmass. They were in a good mood, poking each other's sore spots, "clean and jerk" (not with grandma watching ) and calling Mimei and owing her a Christmas present (probably some of their merch)! :thanks:
