Phil looked so cute and comfortable in the video, it's always nice to see him with people other than Dan. Thanks for everyone posting about her being homophobic, I was just about to watch more of her videos!! Good thing I didn't

Well, that's disappointing as fuck. I wonder how aware Phil is? I can definitely see him being the type to compartmentalize (whereas I don't think Dan would be) but my enthusiasm for the next part, and Phil's video are definitely dimmed now.

yeah, my thoughts exactly. i'm a mixture of them both personally, i can separate things but they deeply bother me. also with the nature of his fan base, her channel will surely get a boost because of this. clearly he's friends with her and enjoys her company, which is fine, but her profiting off of the phandom is to me. hopefully people won't attack her, but they're gonna figure it out and i'm not sure how that's gonna go over.

i mean, they're both still friends (or at least friendly) with pewdiepie, who's said plenty of homophobic (and racist, sexist, etc.) shit over the years. they both seem like the type to ignore that sort of thing unless it's directly aimed at them, like with the whole shane situation.

Re: videos Sims videos never disappoint me (note to self: don't jinx it) It's a nice thing I can expect to get every once in a while and have a pleasant time watching Deppy being cute (or going wild with the freeze ray). I hope Dil gets pregnant because there will be an alien baby and I want to know how they deal with it. I also can't wait for Dab and Evan to become bestest buddies.
Re: Shawna
The anime video was nothing special. Phil's eyes though I used to watch Shawna a while ago (I think I found her through Phil actually), then stopped watching her and subscribed again and then at some point stopped watching again. I don't remember why and I almost wanted to check her out a third time, but not anymore.

I hope demons don't use this as an excuse to attack her, but that's kinda shitty.
She could have changed her mind, though, or at least I want to believe that.
Before I saw the tweets I thought this happened ages ago and she's mentioned that she doesn't think like that anymore but 2015 really isn't that long ago (long enough to change your opinion though). Does anyone know if she ever made a statement that contradicts this one? I generally think that if you change your opinion about marriage equality or similar stuff, you would start showing your support in at least minor ways. I'll assume she still stands by this until she says otherwise. Making a comment and never making it again (did she never make a comment like that again?) doesn't mean you don't believe in it anymore! She could have said that ten years ago and it could still be her opinion. I'd like to believe she thinks otherwise but I need her to say so.

Cute collab but knowing her views does taint the whole thing.
Incase anyone was wondering what Dan was up to while Phil was collabing.

i feel like i can't really get a read on the tone she's using there. is she being snarky? annoyed? just answering in a mysterious way? i'm not sure, but i like picturing dan on his phone low key eavesdropping, and trying not to laugh and ruin the take.

[offtopic]I'm way behind on this thread because real life has been busy. But I just had to pop in here and say that I was watching a new collab with Phil in it and the following conversation ensued between my dad and I.. Dad: Is that Dan or Phil? Me: It's Phil. Dad: Now that's the younger one, right? Me: No, it's this one *shows screen* Dad: The other one seems to have more control in the relationship. Me, laughing: What do you mean by that? Dad: Idk, it just seems like he gets his way more...
My dad officially thinks Dan is dominant. [/offtopic]

I didn't know that so I looked it up. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt because a) the question was answered over a year ago and she may have changed her stance (or not if she's hard-core religious), b) she preached tolerance and acceptance, and support for equality. I don't agree with her 100% (I'm a queer atheist lol) but she doesn't seem like a terrible person.
I HOPE she changed her mind, because, how in the world can someone be that bible-thumping and claim to enjoy Ouran High School Host Club at the same time, or anime in general?
It's been a loong while since i watched it, but doesn't it have cross-dressing and twincest, you know themes that don't really go with scripture or whatever, but maybe that's why she classified it as "weird".
Wonder what she thinks about YOI.

I see the reblog calling the original post out was by Frezned who added that after reblogging from Nanalew. She then reblogged again responding to Frezned with: "Meh. I think it’s an interesting quote. I don’t necessarily agree with it."
But that doesn't make my opinion of her any better because she still reblogged with without critique and her reaction to Frezned is just defensive in the same way 'I don't agree with gay marriage but I won't hate people for it' is..

I couldn't agree more about Phil compartmentalizing, and now I am wondering why Dan wasn't in this video.
Also, from watching their videos over the years, I think Dan is a bit possessive (this might not be a good word but I can't think of another one) of Phil, and I don't see a collab going down with Dan NOT present, even if we can't see him on camera. Dan's definitely there in this vid.
And...if she made those statements about gay marriage back in 2015, I would half expect a public "change of view" statement especially since she made her views known publically in the past.
Call me hardheaded, but someone who says "I don't agree but people can do what they want" is a game-ender for me. I won't watch.

I think she's dancing a nice little verbal dance there, because she did state that everyone should have the same legal rights. Her issue seems to (as of 2015) be with that legal right being actually appropriate to call marriage or not, and she did not clarify anything about that in the tweet she answered just now.
I will still watch the second part of this video and Phil's video when it comes out, of course, but it definitely killed any further interest I had in her.

lol 100% agree. Although I can relate to Phil because I go to a Catholic school (simply bc it's where my primary school friends went, I've always been the athiest that opposes the RE teachers oops) and despite being in a v labour area, with a fair few gay/bi people out, I've still had to deal with some stupid attitudes (completly fell out with one kinda friend who supports trump, thinks there are only two genders and three sexualities, basically has tons of shitty opinions).
When a girl at my school started dating her best friends trans boyfriend and there was tons of drama on it, I was constantly correcting peoples pronouns when they called him "her", which they responded to "But she has a vagina, so aren't they lesbians?!" etc etc.
My Dad used to be a tory, and low-key still is but just sees no point in voting tory bc of our constituency so votes lib dem, and we argue/debate a fair few times a week about an abundance of political issues (he believes in privatising the NHS, for example )
Basically I've grown up having to be tolerant of people who have shitty opinions and beliefs, because people do always have good and bad sides - when picking youtubers to watch I'd avoid them like hell, but with friendships that are formed before you discuss these issues it's sometimes more difficult to just abandon someone unless they say something that tips you over the edge. idk if anyones speculated on phil's parents political leanings based on the comments we've recieved from Phil regarding them (and I should check what his constituency tended to favour politically) but I wouldn't be surprised if he adapted to remaning neutral with regards to other beliefs.
Note:Phil's old constituency has been run by labour for the past 4 years but this year the tory's were voted in appaz - might be a flexible area

On one (giant) hand: yeah. On the other (tiny, rubber) hand: uncomfortable noises. Anecdotal oversharing because I'm not extremely busy today in the least, and this is definitely what I should do with a spare few minutes, not other important things I definitely don't need to be doing right now, nope, I'm a responsible person:
I have a friend who is basically this, I've been friends with her for over 10 years, and it's something we've just learned not to talk about. I remember a very uncomfortable car ride with her and another friend years ago where he decided to call out her beliefs out of nowhere (I just sprawled out in the backseat and basically made uncomfortable noises the entire time because I knew it wouldn't go anywhere productive, and it didn't), essentially trying to make her choose her friends over her religion lol, and you can imagine how that went down. The only thing we really learned is it's not just gay people that she 'disagrees' with (or actually: gay people being gay, because if they never act on anything and are genuinely repentant for being the way they are (in thought) then they're a-ok for admittance to the opposite of eternal suffering, so. like. what's the big deal.), it's anybody that isn't her exact religion, which is the only correct one, that she just so happened to be born into (which is pretty lucky if you think about it, what are the odds).
And she doesn't hate anybody, she just feels bad they're all going to hell. Like she personally doesn't have a problem with anybody, but it's just a fact based on the arbitrary interpretations of some old dumb books ('the longest game of telephone' is how I like to think of it) that certain people will go to hell. She can't help it, it's just the way it is. People who steal, people who get divorced, people who aren't her and her family, they're just all going to go to hell and that's unfortunate (this isn't something she'd casually say to anybody btw, my other friend dragged it all out while I clawed at the door handle, calculating how many bones I wouldn't mind breaking vs. continuing to stay in the car). Anyway. She's a 'good person', she gives to charity, she works to improve religious people's lives and isn't outwardly judgemental any more than normal people. She has a lot of gay friends. She's even fine with gay marriage (except for you know, it causing you to end up in hell after death, but she can't do anything about that). When I think about how she genuinely thinks most people she ever meets will suffer for eternity just for being born into different circumstances than her, it's kind of a bummer and a thought process I have no real understanding of because hell (and the rest of it) is nonsense. But then I think: it's not nonsense to her, and.. that's pretty fucked up then, isn't it. It all creeps me out to be completely honest, but again, we don't talk about it. Because she's fun to go to dinner with occasionally, or see a movie, and we have a shared history.
I assume it's the same kind of thing for Phil (and a lot of people?), but then again I hope Phil has more respect for himself than I do for myself, and I suppose it's one thing to hang out with a person every few weeks, but another to promote their existence to a large group of people with a collab (public friendships: how do they work). I feel like the topic of gay marriage wouldn't ever even come up when they're just catching up at a convention, maybe discussing old school YT memories, you know, just being normal people. These things don't enter into your interactions when they're not actively hateful people and just see things differently, you know what I'm saying. I'm not trying to defend it, but don't we all have people in our lives with some uncomfortable viewpoints we kind of gloss over? (But I mean, if not, please give me pointers on how to find and make better friends, because I'm honestly bad at life).

The more I read her Twitter replies and Tumblr reblogs, the more I think 'yikes' and I'm changing my mind. (That didn't take long.) I think I may have been defending her out of already knowing her and being unable to believe she held such views. I'll try to be more careful next time.
I try not to group all Christians (and by extension other religions) into one box so I think you can still be very religious and enjoy things like Ouran. It's cherry-picking ofc but most religious folk have to do that in this modern age - find a compromise between religious morals and society's evolving morals. At least she's not saying she hates gay people. But it's compliance with a backwards way of thinking and definitely doesn't help things for LGBT people (edit: and fancybum summed up the problems with that of thinking tysm). I personally think there's no point in religion if you base most of your morality off what society thinks is right, which is constantly evolving with people trying to fix what is problematic and often directly contradicts religion, but it's useful for some people, and this is the main thread so I'll stop now.

I find that the "that person has changed" mentality is relevant only when they are young and have shown significant change. Shauna is a grown woman and seems quite unfazed with her stance, if it hasn't been corrected. Chances are she doesn't have the audience to care enough to "call her out" and I doubt much will transpire of general opinion outside of this forum. I'm sure the general consensus for the majority of the phandom will be simultaneously trying to proof that she isn't Phil's secret girlfriend and breaking down in tears if but why if she is???/?.
I can tell that she prioritizes her religious upbringing over empathising with people she fundamentally disagrees with (okay I guess). She probably doesn't know many lgbt people. In my opinion, she has probably quite more conservative views she isn't sharing and is making a "soft" approach, if she wasn't an online creator she would probably be more open with how she really feels, but she's using selective word choices. I don't think she's a bad person, but learning what she openly admits to and in such a sly way makes me wary of her, she seems fake.
However, I don't want to go on a witch hunt to her, considering Dan (and probably Phil) have also said borderline homophobic/ignorant things in the past, they have changed, and we give them the "slip." All I'm doing right now is questioning the choice of person involved and "called out" (usually a woman) and just highlighting how I find women are more closely scrutinized while male faces are overlooked.
I highlight this: I do not think she is exempt from criticism, I just want to make an observation based on typical behaviours I see, and to keep biases out of mind. (dont take this out of context)

Fully agree that there shouldn't be a witch hunt, just to get that out of the way first.
But on the topic of scrutinizing - I'm not sure what the alternative would be here. Not talk about her being (to steal jhambs' wording from twitter) a type of soft homophobe because she's a woman? Because that also doesn't sit right with me.
Outside of the context of a discussion forum where talking about things Dan and Phil do and videos they make is quite literally the purpose, my general attitude towards people with opinions like hers is just to ignore them. But in the context of this forum doing what it does best - overanalyzing everything - I think that happens across the board pretty evenly.
