Dan and Phil Part 104: DAPG IS BACK FROM THE DEAD
Long videos are fine with me. In fact I wish they would dedicate themselves to a series other than the Sims. Poppy's Playground is a good start if they're planning on doing another chapter when it comes out. Keep doing the It Takes Two game. Stuff like that. The cutesy one-off stuff is good but they need more meat on the gaming channel bone ... so to speak.
Longform videos are always a win for me, even if I don't particularly enjoy the game. Heck, I'll sit through Twitch ads for my favorite streamers when they play games I don't enjoy.
What I'm finding for myself is: I don't enjoy the super long videos AS MUCH (I still enjoy them!) when DnP are still very much putting on this forced persona/act that they do. In my opinion, they're still putting on a character each time they film a video - they've basically always done this and I completely understand their reasons for doing so (their personal preference, introverts with anxiety, preserving privacy by maintaining a caricature of themselves, etc). But I'm finding it hard to enjoy an hour of this at a time. I'd much rather watch an hour-long livestream of them just chatting since they're a bit more natural and not as edited in their personality. I'm curious if anyone else feels this way, maybe it's just been so long since we've seen them so regularly and I haven't gotten used to their flow again. But I'm really happy they're posting and still enjoy watching them whatever way they'll give us

I can't believe Dan thought gnome was spelt like "nome" (during the ad read)
he was shocked too. Can't judge that much tho I've misspelt much easier words.
Also why did this game about colorful potatoes have me on the edge of my seat during Dan's second go. It would have been a crazy comeback.

I know what you mean. This made me think of when people were always telling them to make a podcast and they couldn't do it because it was during that time where they were still censoring themselves a lot. Then they came out and you could notice how much more free they felt during those quarantine stereo liveshows they did. So yeah I would love to see them chat for a longer time. There have been a few times where my favourite part about the video was the few minutes where they haven't started playing yet and are just joking around for a longer time than usual.scientia wrote: Wed Dec 13, 2023 6:06 am What I'm finding for myself is: I don't enjoy the super long videos AS MUCH (I still enjoy them!) when DnP are still very much putting on this forced persona/act that they do. What did you think about the It takes two video? They seemed specially cozy and natural in that one. Maybe because they were really enjoying the game.
joining the chorus of people who have returned after a long hiatus. i was thinking today about my journey with d&p. i entered the fandom in late 2013/early 2014, i think perhaps just a few month before the gaming channel was set up. i 'left' the tumblr part of the fandom in 2015 but always kept up with d&p throughout the years (albeit more phil than dan, but he's always been my bias) - over the last 10 years i've watched/listened to every livestream and still watched every single video within 24 hours of it being posted.
i like this new era of d&p. glad they get to live their truth. i don't really care what their relationship status is and i'm not invested in shipping them. maybe it's bc we've watched them interact for 10 years and it's just... normalised. it's what it is. sometimes they touch and sometimes they don't. sometimes they say weird shit to each other or about each other. i don't think their chemistry or the way they interact has changed since they both came out (apart from phil making an impressive amount of bottoming jokes) and i've just learned to take them as they are.
dapg has come back at a really opportune time for me, it's given me something to watch while i deal with my mental health and it's been comforting just to watch 2 dudes that i feel like i've (albeit parasocially) known for 10 years banter and play silly games. i've really enjoyed it. they were never serious gamers and i don't expect them to be. their banter is the same - bit performative, sure, but that's what i enjoyed 10 years ago and i still enjoy it now. i really enjoyed it takes two and i hope they film all of it! i have to say i've really gone off the golfing videos, but think that's just me.

I continue to reject any and all criticism of PINOF react content, to me this is the greatest Dan and Phil thing in years. It's great to hear them talk about years past, react to their Blunder Years tm, and then still show themselves to be same old nerds (and Dan inevitably showing up for Phil Trash No.1 title every single time).
Just here for the marketing skills
Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way sometimes! and YES, definitely enjoyed the It Takes Two videomomentojabali wrote: Wed Dec 13, 2023 3:00 pmI know what you mean. I reject Dan's claim that they don't have performative and more "natural" voices. I'd say probably every youtuber has some sort of performative voice they use when on camera, even if the difference is slight.
Anyway, I loved this video. It might be one of my favourite series now.

Somewhat off topic but what’s the over/under bet on whether they will do the impossible quiz 2? I’d LOVE that to be part of gamingmas.

I took it as a rejection of the idea that they were purposefully performing a different voice. You are right that every YouTuber has a bit of a performative voice when they are on camera but I think it's broader than that — I think every person has one that they slip Into on a stage, or in front of a crowd.phancon wrote: Thu Dec 14, 2023 9:45 am I reject Dan's claim that they don't have performative and more "natural" voices. It's usually unintentional (I vividly remember noticing mine during my wedding when I was saying my vows) but people's speech changes when they are saying things that matter or when their words are trying to do something. (I call it my speech act voice and it also pops up when I am talking in court to a judge for work).
I take back my previous thought that I wasn’t sure I wanted reactions to the rest of the pinofs- I enjoyed that video a lot. For some reason them laughing at their own jokes is endlessly amusing to me. Their comments about the sort of behind the scenes part were interesting too.
But how did they remember that song they made up???

Yes me too I was totally wrong! I was feeling nervous after the first one, but this was lighthearted and interesting, and let us in to some background info and new lore. Literally did not stop grinning the whole video. And Dan's "mmmmhmhm their faces are touchingggg" killed me omg
Can we all talk about the picture at 1:59? Why do they keep doing this to us??jmorton wrote: Thu Dec 14, 2023 7:24 pm New and very amusing Phil video. The last story had me rolling. Is this Phil's version of Internet Support Group?
Also, 'The Dan Howell Special' bit was especially funny after last night's video where Dan mentions his mother getting him stuff like a funky lamp. Let the woman get you a funky lamp for your millennial grey casket!
I think both of them are super comfortable with everyone sorta *wink wink* 'knowing' about them so they are much more at ease with playing with it. IMO. Also when Phil wants to be he can just cut right to the core with teasing Dan. Lol. It's a remarkable talent.Catallena wrote: Thu Dec 14, 2023 10:40 pmCan we all talk about the picture at 1:59? Good video but they said the literal word phivorce and that sends chills up my spine.
"Do you think they're friend-guins or gay-guins?"
"They are sleeping next to each other, but there are twin beds, which means they're either straight or [pause] married."
