Wowie, those were good. I'd forgotten how cringe some of the show is and how they, Dan especially, ham it up so much. Remember it's for ironic nostalgia and it'll be okay They're both so expressive, Phil with such a cute cheeky face and hopping here and there, Dan with his sharp comments on things. The way Phil said "why I was a weird kid" sounded really good, more succinct than I remembered.

I'd forgotten his silence and Dan's commentary in the magic show. I'm torn about whether I want to know how all the tricks are done or not especially with huge things to pull out of nowhere like the bowling ball. Amazing how it took Dan until it said "bowli" before he got what type of ball it was

The craft section was sweet, there were some really good artworks and their reactions to their Kanye and Buddy portraits were lovely. The Dildoll was lame, but I guess it makes for a daft joke. They looked cute as heck in their cat whiskers as old guys especially Phil. I often find they remind me of mice with the whiskers on and this one really did it.

The existential crisis, fan fiction and Dil with his messages was all good, by that point I was so invested in them and loving everything. Did wonder why Dil looked like he'd lost some paint fro me below his mouth. Then the ending, by gods I'd been waiting for this. They do sing well and it's such a good take on the typical song and dance routine, I remember when I first saw the photo of them in the gold suits, I admit I burst out laughing because they're not exactly high class jackets, but the symbolism of going for it in top hat and tails, and gold ones no less. I think I hit peak fandom at that moment. I did expect more closeups of their faces, but there was a good mix I suppose. Could have done with the final ticker tape explosion all close up to really feel the effect, but it got there a few shots later.

Then onto the doc. I like how they organised it into segments and started with clips of pinofs so enough injokes were explained and some of their history given to anyone new. Great to hear how they started thinking about it, which parts each of them wanted to put in, how they round to the final story, deciding which shirts to wear (good choice, Phil, red was too strong, dark was too dark and the blue has good speckles), the process of all the parts to it and all the people it involved. The director seems lovely. I wanted to see the choreographers and know their names too, though! Even if they'd never been in Cats (it's a particular favourite that I've seen a lot of people in over 20 years), the musical theatre fan in me likes to namespot. The ending was adorable with the roundup of fans and YouTubers giving their opinions. I was surprised to see Hank Green, but that was lovely, fits in with him naming them as one of his five to watch a while ago.

So many funny and cute moments, loved them singing their warmup song and Dan saying he'd finally got to right. Poor Phil losing track of the words, it's hard to get back into a tongue twister like that once it's gone. He was so cute standing by the suitcase while Dan and the crewlady pulled out his three left trainers. Like a little kid just resigned to being known for forgetful disorganisation. They didn't even tell us if they found the other shoes. I was surprised Dan's trainers are that grey to start with, I thought they'd faded over time, but then that doesn't really make sense cos they wouldn't have been washed like the rest of his clothes. I was glad they explained why they decided to scrub off each other's whiskers after Phil did his fringecheck with not only a mirror but also a torch held by a crew person. Staff and everything, yet still they went for reciprocal whisker removal. It was funny seeing them having makeup done even while they're warming up, and by their management, but it's ordinary enough makeup.

The bed situation made me laugh. The tour of the bus took in so many details of the bowls in the cupboards, the non-slip table mats and Phil's snarky commentary on the bunks and the shower. Babypoo coloured sheets and a serial killer red light, such an innocent flower we have here ;) When they got to the bedroom, actually putting up a pink and yellow graphic and made such a thing out of it, I couldn't believe they were taking it far. I wasn't expecting anything especially in such a high profile video so I'm not bothered otherwise, tbh if anything I thought they might say it wasn't so comfortable sleeping together, but they survived. I can't sleep with anyone without waking up all the time whenever they move, but I also wouldn't want to be in a bunk and I'm not that tall.

True or not, Dan clambering out of the bunk... he's so cute in his pyjamas, they're all baggy and he looks so young I just want squish him. On the omg so hot note, Phil in his magic show rehearsal outfit of all black with the jacket... also his green party shirt was good to see. Lots of those moments for both of them really, there's just certain tshirts and jumpers that really suit them, and Dan with his hair pushed back.

I get where people are upset, though. Ages ago when I discovered things they've lied about like their mutual friend I was very disenamoured with them, especially Phil as I had a huge crush on him for a while, and I came to the conclusion that I don't know what it's been like for them to grow up in a spotlight like that. Even so, taking the piss out of us all would not be great to discover, if that is even the case. As people as have, they denied it and weren't listened to, then gave up, but haven't necessarily done anything overt to suggest anything. Tbh I'd have a hard time dropping them as they've helped me through one of the roughest times of life that I'm not quite through yet, so it'd be a bit empty without them.

That aside, the show and the documentary were pretty much everything I was hoping for so this evening has been amazing. I witch-cackled a lot and would gladly squish them both. That photo of Dan in his Totoro onesie, so cosy and incongruous with the flute glass of rose.

Show & Documentary Spoilers:
TATINOF:
I did not expect that it would be this amazing. I cringe very easily and expected that that would be the case very often. But even the few times I did cringe, I could still enjoy it! The whole idea with Phil microwaving the Laptop and suddenly the Internet is out in real life is so creative, I'm amazed! It worked so well together and it was just ... wow! Dan and Phil are more than just YouTubers. And they deserve every cent they make (that's why I hope Google Play works now because I totally legally watched it without paying for it because I was impatient and angry). I want to punch past me in the face for not even trying to watch them because I thought they were annoying, kids entertaining sellouts. Never judge someone before you give them a chance. I'm glad that in the end I did exactly that and could enjoy this amazing show. I'm actually sad that I couldn't see this live. I never thought I'd want to go, but seeing this, I wish I'd been there. And the message at the end was just made for people like me. I'm just ...

DOCUMENTARY:
I have to say this first: Busgate was so disappointing. As if Dan slept in the bunk all the time! I don't buy that, I just don't. They could have said they swapped, I might've believed that. And then that ominous close-up of the Dan & Phil sign at the bedroom/bathroom door and them in bed together while Phil was sleeping. The whole "fighting for the bed"-thing looked extremey staged but why do that? They obviously aren't uncomfortable with Phan shipping because they included it in their show. Maybe they really wanted to distance themselves from Phan as an actual thing and show it as part of their branding. It really doesn't make sense to me otherwise.
I did enjoy the documentary though. I expected that I would enjoy it way more than the actual show, but if I'm being honest, that's not the case. I loved it very much, don't get me wrong, but the show blew my mind and the docu just met my expectations (which were high). I might actually prefer the show a little bit. I am shocked that I just said this. The bus tour was kinda funny (except for busgate). It was really interesting to see all the Behind the Scenes stuff and I was happy with it.

My opinions aren't what I thought they would be before watching. Which is actually quite cool. Dan and Phil, you surprised me in a good way
Now I'll read all the discussion I've missed so far because I wanna know your thoughts! This will take a while

Tatinof
They definitely used footage from more than one show because the weird kid stories, crafty corner stories, and 7 second challenges were not what they did daytime at the dolby. Either night show or London footage. Interesting that a lot of the tatinof footage in the documentary was from the London show, and somewhere with the stars and striped jackets??

I understand they couldn't use the preshow music in the film, but man did it set the mood. The clip before the show was cute and all, but not the same as singing pop with 1000 other people.

Yes, its cringe, and without the people around you being excited its hard to be as excited as i was at the live show, but i still enjoyed it. The close-ups were everything I wanted and I'm glad I saved myself $60 buying a balcony ticket.

They cut out calling rant that the mother does about how her child only sits on the internet all day watching DnP and should she be worried. Wonder why?

Speaking of close-ups, why did they choose an angle that only showed phils face when they look at each other in the final song!!! The love was tangible, and only seeing half of it made me really mad.

As cute as the chosen fanfic parts were, they were strangely not the shippiest options. Show me the darn pirates in space eating cake. I need to see phils face when he is delightfully shoving cake into dan's mouth by hand. I need to see the part where they got so close to holding hands their molecules were touching and the whole theater held its breath, Give it to me or I will revolt.

I know you wanted a hug - here you go. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXdTyMsZJsY
Everything that can be said about the doc has already been said so I wont bother, just know that I'm on the side of heart eyes meaning more than #bedgate, and the heart eyes were strong in these two, and there was no attempt to hide that.

Okay, so imma talk about the bed thing. I know it's been talked about over and over but like, I have an opinion so here we go
I feel like the thing about Dan and Phil is that everything is one giant in-joke. So many of us have been here for so long, it's all just old jokes and nostalgia. And at this point, it's kind of 'we know, they know we know, they know we know they know' kind of thing. We're all 'in on the joke' and we let them pretend they don't share a bed just to humour them, and we just have a laugh behind the scenes. That's fine. If they don't want to share that stuff with us for whatever reason, that's fine. HOWEVER, I feel like them adding in stuff over and over and over again that 'we aren't sharing a bed' 'we got separate hotel rooms' ect. is just patronising at this point? Most of us have been here long enough, are old enough, or smart enough to realise that they are blatantly lying. And I don't know why but that really makes me mad. Why go out of your way to lie about it? Just leave it, don't include it, whatever, but they went out of their way about three times to say they weren't sharing a bed, and it feels old and patronising and im tired.

Also, I would be more likely to believe they buy two damn tour buses before I believe diva dan squeezes his ass into a tiny bunk for two months, but nice try.

Idk, overall I loved both movies, and im emo and happy and in love with them both, but i feel like the who 'bed situation' that shouldn't even be a situation is this big shadow that shouldnt exist. I have some theories on why they're doing this, but honestly it's 2016 and its time to stop pretending like the audience is stupid.

ok cool i just caught up with the thread after watching both movies side note: if anyone knows how to download ytr vids permanently onto your computer pm me because id like to rewatch them after the 30 day trial is up

thoughts on the show:
just as cringy as i expected, but in a good way. i really enjoyed it, it took me back to 2011 and made me feel really warm and nostalgic. surprisingly dan's acting was a let down, i know he's better than that so i was a bit disappointed in how over exaggerated he was. i would also tell him to sort out his posture but then that would be hypocritical. i liked the story and the song at the end more than i thought i would, but i thought the pinof75 thing was embarrassing and i could have done without the fan fic irl thing (but then im not a phan shipper so [imagine im shrugging]).

it made me glad i didn't see the show irl to be honest, because i don't think i could have dealt with the crowd (screaming fangirls rlly bother me i'm sorry). I'll definitely be rewatching, i did enjoy it a lot, if only for the nostalgia, but i don't think ill be going to see it if they tour again.
thoughts on the doc:
i actually really enjoyed the documentary. for some reason i had geared myself up for this to be some big phan reveal, like i think a lot of other people here, but i was glad it wasn't because i feel like putting something like that in paid content would be super gross and money-grabbing. if they come out at any point it shouldn't be in paid content imo, that's the type of thing that would make me unsub. i have very few opinions on the whole bed/busgate thing, i expected them to do this ever since the doc was announced. i understand why people are upset, but it was only a tiny 3 minute section of the doc, and the rest of it was so good, so i don't see why people are completely focusing on the negative.

as for the whole "if they're not together then i'm unsubbing because they've been queerbaiting" thing... i'm not sure how i stand on this. while i'm not a phan shipper i acknowledge that phan is a huge part of their brand and how they make money, but from my pov as someone who's been around for 5/7 years of their relationship (whatever that may be) (also not trying to sound high and mighty, just giving context) i don't think that that's their fault. mostly, the phandom has taken a lot of things that they said in 2009 and other out of context stuff and taken control by themselves. i feel like phan as a brand came about by the fans forcing it on them, not the other way around. they're sort of trapped now in this awkward place where if they come out and say they're dating they'll be accused of lying and lose viewers (and income), but if they do the opposite they'll have the same reaction. its complicated, and i'm not sure its exactly deppy's fault, but idk that's just my opinion.

I loved seeing the bts of the show, it reminded me of my musical theatre days, and i loved their little theatre dressing room tours. sick phil was adorable, and it was so cute to see him hugging his pillow in almost every shot  I would have liked to have seen more of tour bus life, and more stuff shot by deppy, but honestly it was pretty much exactly what i expected so i can't complain. i really enjoyed it but then i love most of the content that these dorks put out so

I was serious about that you know, now some of you are all broken and sad. :itsokay:

Loooong spoiler ahead.
I did like documentary, but it wasn't worth the €10 and I do kinda regret spending it... It still didn't make me intersted in seeing actual TATINOF though, so at least that's another €10 saved. My bank account will be happy. :thumb: I would've enjoyed it more if it felt at least a little more personal and touched more upon their own feelings regarding everything, but it felt almost as distant as the book/tour announcement last year. Everything they said was full of clichés and things we've already heard a thousand times before. Staged, fabricated.. And that's just not why I watch YouTube. That's an issue I have with YTR in general though, it wants to be professional and TV like so bad but it forgets what YouTube actually is about for me and many other users. Whatever happened to Broadcast Yourself hm?

Back to Deppy and the hot topic of shipbaiting that I usually avoid like the plague.. yeah I kinda felt it too. But I just kinda refuse to believe that Dan who has become hyper aware of things that could be perceived as being problematic in recent times would go so far in that. Maybe that's wishful thinking, just me hoping that Dan and Phil aren't money grabbing assholes who don't care about their own morals if some good cash is to be made. But I genuinely think they're better than that, and I guess I have to hold on to that? I want to believe, not necessarily in Phan but in them being better people than fucking Smosh or something. :sideeye: i will always majorly side eye them for being besties with Anthony

Again I had nowhere near any of the expectations some of you had, so I'm not as hurt as some of you seem to be. But it still wasn't great. I do hope the hype around the 'rebranding' will kinda go down due to this though, you're just setting yourself up for more disappointment.

Commentary I wrote while watching:

- No story of how they met they just skipped straight to PINOF1, I want my money back (jk I expected it already but I still think a proper origin story would've been a nice addition. Oh well.)
- 'We started sucking less the more time went on' #phansexlessmarriage
- The bits from the actual show make me cringe so badly help how do you guys do this.
- Director knew nothing about Depster before this. I'm envious tbh.
- They're control freaks apparently. Brand new info. I feel like I'm gonna have to pull my ORLY? face a lot during this.
- Phil is holding a sign that says Biggie Jr. right above his crotch and that amuses me because I'm nasty.
- Image of Phil being all excited to show Dan the magic routine is cute
- A+ for effort and they're not that bad yadda yadda but I cringed so badly at the singing that I paused and legit sunk from the chair to the floor for a minute.
- Staying on the floor for now because we've arrived at the dancing part. Bless Phil for absolutely having no rhythm and seemingly no control over his movements.
- Our favorite pretentious theatre kid Dan is in his element tho, you can see it in his face.
- No rehearsal of the fanfiction part? That's odd to me, it's a pretty big part of the show right?
- Legit question for anyone who went to see the show and didn't walk out completely traumatized by 'Dil'... HOW? I've been terrified of that face ever since I first vaguely saw it in a spoiler, and seeing it in HD doesn't make it any better.
- 'Our virtual son' Aww dads.
- I was gonna fangirl over Phil lint rolling Dan's hot bod, but Dan kept staring into the camera judging me. ..I'm still gonna fangirl ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- 'It took me about seventeen years to decide on a shirt' You decided wrong, that thing is ugly as sin.
- 'Dan and Phil got a really distinctive style' @YTR people who made that awful banner.
- 'Phil microwaved his laptop' I really love how aggressively they adapted the cliché and annoying The Smart One & The Ditz thing that every duo ever does into their own branding.   Also my main critique of the gaming channel these days.
- Did they sent KyoAni an email regarding the use of Haru's face in the set as well? :')
- Dan chasing Phil while wearing the terrifying monstrosity that is Dil's head
- I'm always amused by hotel rooms with the spectacular view of a wall. Reminds me of the hotel I was an intern at that listed the rooms with a view of a busy road and a construction site as 'City View'. Weirdly enough people expect a different type of 'City View' when they're in Amsterdam.
- Awww Phil carrying around his pillow.
- Phil looked so skinny during the USA tour it's a bit scary sometimes (especially considering how much crap he was eating with all the pancakes and stuff).
- BUS TOUR I'M READY FOR DISAPPOINTMENT
- Fucking Kanye.
-
Fuck you and your little rock-paper-scissors game. We get it, you'd rather have one of you acquire fucking back problems by folding up in bunk bed for two months then sleep in the same big bed. Ok. Still not buying it though.
- Gonna choose to believe that the part with them waking up was staged as hell like most of this doc. Sue me bitches.
- I know Dan was just doing it to be annoying but him playing with Phil's hair
- Poor sick little puppy though.
- Separate rooms.
- Staged semi sentimental roof top talk. How anime of them.
- Oh geez we go back to the cringing, the phandom is pretty embarrassing IRL I'm sorry I do love you all.
- Them meeting parents is really cute though, especially ones that watch D&P with their kids. I think it's nice when kids get to share stuff they care about with an interested parent. I have always shared plenty of my interests with my mom, and she still knows every single orignal Pokémon and recently bought herself a Harry Potter calender. Love my nerd mom
- ...wasn't a lot of stuff for crafty corner and all those other things the same for every show though? I feel like that was proven.
- Vocal warm ups are weirdly cute, especially the one where they're getting their makeup done.
- Oh no the nightmare Dil head is back again. D:
- Backstage stuff, it's interesting but I still have no interest in the actual thing.
- Yeah scrubbing the whiskers from each others faces is definitely the only way to go here BYE
- Even while doing one simple spin Phil manages to stumble I'M IMPRESSED.
- Back on the floor due to cringe at the singing.. and the lyrics.
- A wild Tomska appears.
- We see little shots of the stage crew, but nothing from the merch crew hm? You wouldn't even know Martyn and Cornelia were with them on tour. I know one of the merch girls said that they run on an entire different schedule but still. I had just kinda hoped to see them in the doc.
- A wild Hank Green appears.
- 'They have, and I don't know how they did it, the best and most engaged community on the internet right now' Literally me, I'm genuinely not sure how they manage to keep their audience so invested for so long. Also that coming from Hank Green impresses me, because Nerdfighteria isn't a community to be messed with either.
- YAAAAS GO BACK TO BEING TO YOUTUBERS. Though I wouldn't mind some radio on the side... *bitter and salty at the same time* I'm glad TATINOF is over, though I do feel for my fellow EU peeps who would've liked to see it live. I wonder what was so hard about materializing it..
- 'Let's go home'

show
I tried but I couldn't get through it the cringe was too strong (I'll try again with idb moral support on the weekend)
I find the stage design and the concept and story, everything quite impressive, but the acting (especially on Dan's part) is just sooo over the top
He surely hass some weird moves too I understand you need to play more expressivly to make it work on a stage but come on
documentary
- like others mentioned, this was really a typical dvd bonus feature. Sitting on chairs commenting on different topics, scripted behind the scenes parts mixed with footage from the show plus generic emotional music and voiceover. Not complaining though, that's what theyve always promised, it's just still hard to get this shiny hollywood celeb feel together with DnP. Probably because they are still these nerds on their bedrooms to me, and thats what always made them work imo.

- judging it as a making of I mostly missed seeing the actual creative process. The development of the content of the show is kinda cut out here, they just jump right into the details. I enjoyed it anyway, especially the parts where they work togehter with professionals from different fields.

-actually loved the parts where you could see more of the audience and I might have wasted a bit of time counting and looking for all the dads and boyfriends
Interviews with parents at the m&g was therefore also one of my faves. Somehow I enjoy people who are not their core audience reacting to them a lot! (maybe bc neither am I a teenage girl  )

- I didn't expect the stuff they filmed themselves to be so scripted. That was cringy af. Some snippets seemed genuing though, like the rehersals and Dan messing with Phils nose/hair (which luckily is also the most domestic scene in the whole movie and took part in their Phils bed)

- bit of emotional scenes in the end and on the roof, nice, could have done with more of that thoughand more spontaneously seriously why did I get the impression that even their reactions right after the final show were scripted?

I don't even wanna comment on #busgate (honestly I'm on the train back to "I dont even care if phan is real"-land much faster then I expected right now). If this is how they want to be seen it's fine
But what I found funny is how they put layers of mysterious blueprints into the opening sequence of the bus tour part. It's as if they're making fun of us crazy sherlockians here

Also not to forever get stuck on busgate but surely if you're too tall to fit in a bunk the bottom one would be easier to get in and out of? Less funny to get out of on video yes but probably considerably easier to sleep in as a tall person.

Then again it is D&P and they do seem tyo live by the belief higher is always better. They measure how good a bar or restaurant is by how high up in a skscrapper it is and apparently hold the belief that when it comes to hotel rooms you win if your floor is higher so they probably would think top bunk is best.
Well no bunk for Phil as he has the double bed. (Can't believe I made that joke I'll show myself out).

So I literally have nothing new or interesting to contribute to the busgatediscussion, but I still feel it's only right to comment on it after enduring months and months of build-up.
I was already trying to predict how they'd handle the bedroom situation once that bootleg MTV Cribs-style graphics flashed onto the screen. Were they only going to show the bunks and end it there? Were they going to splice footage from two buses to trick us into believing there were actually 2 rooms? Needless to say, I was........ shook....... when they finally revealed the bedroom.

As far as how they handled the bed assignments, the only thing that saved it imo was just how dramatically cheesy it was. I interpreted it as if they sort of knew they were screwed in that regard, so poking fun at it decreased whatever discomfort they might feel about it. As in it's easier for them to blatantly lie on such a large scale if they turn it into a big joke. If people believe Dan took the bunk, great. If people don't buy it, well it's not like D&P were being totally serious anyway.

And then that "waking up on the bus" scene.... Bitch, when I tell you I literally had to pause the video and just stare blankly into space when Dan fucking unfurled out of that bunk. *insert every I Can't gif on the internet* Yes to whomever it was that said we wouldn't have heard the end of Dan's whining if that were truly the case. Clearly it was staged as fuck. Yeah sure, you two just woke up with perfectly laid fringe. Faces aren't even puffy from sleep. Ooh great acting from Phil as he trudged to the kitchen with squinty eyes because he's, like, seaux tired, guys. And then we never saw them wake up in the bus again.

Basically what Winston said, I'll take the sick Phil scene in the bedroom as more representative of the norm, due to how natural/ unscripted it was. Phil didn't seem fazed at all when waking up to Dan curled up beside him.
General thoughts? Blah blah cute blah blah trash happy yay i love them yadda yadda Phil's butt during the dance rehearsals blah blah *shakes fist at whomever brought up the idea of them hugging because now i'm lowkey upset it didn't happen even though i knew it wouldn't* blah blah i hope i don't forget to dl before this free trial runs out.

You all crack me up Some truly great reactions.

As for bedgate I'm leaning towards the 'they know no one will actually believe them so it's a joke' side. They really didn't have to show any waking up segments whatsoever.

finished eveything a little while ago but now i've just been laying on my couch in a heap of mess - feels good to know tatinof spoilers will soon no longer be a thing anyone has to worry about. the doc was a bit different than i expected, as other people have mentioned too. but i loved everything

spoiler-y
phil's half asleep lip peck when he was sick in bed, gurl.

i could visually see the thousands of complaints playing in my head as soon as dan rolled out of that bunkbed, i was hoping they would leave it ambiguous but where would we be without a mandatory bed clip? they film themselves getting out of bed separately, wtf ensues, they post some cute stuff in 2 days, we forget it, rinse and repeat. good old clockwork.

Image
i love that they signed their names on the top of the triangle on the door

also the best part of the entire documentary, obv was the star of the entire show and entire purpose of the tour, dil howlter. i was loling audibly at his parts, like father like son
i am really interested in where they go from here once this year comes to an end, aaand now we all collectively have a giant thought bubble to process for the next few months, thank you deppy

Comments on Tatinof
I invited my friend over to watch it and we were expecting it to be quite cringey but we were pleasantly surprised! The show was much better than I imagined. We laughed a lot, and honestly the cringiest parts were the audience's reactions. If I had a dime for every shot of a girl in the audience saying "oh my god" and covering their mouths... Also there was a girl that was literally about to put her foot on her mouth, I need that as a reaction gif
At first their acting was quite bad but I really felt that it got better as the show went on. It was really nice and I'm glad I paid for it (it was only 5,32 USD in my country so that was a plus!)
Comments on the documentary
It looked really professional, I enjoyed it as well, all the BTS clips of them failing at everything
When I saw that they were going to do a tour bus tour I started cringing and freaking out in anticipation. My friend has no idea about #busgate (she's not that involved in the community) so I kept it to myself but omg the rock paper scissors game was painful to watch.
Both my friend and I agreed that we felt kind of empty after watching it all, like when you finish reading a book. What now? We truly live in a post-Tatinof world now.

eh I took (i.e. handwrote lol) notes so I'll dump them here before they become irrelevant. like timestamps but without the actual timestamps, so useful thanks mez :sideeye:

Show
Opening—interesting that the clips are actually in reverse chronological order. It's not like they end up in 2009 or anything in the show, so it doesn't really seem necessary to do that, but interesting (a word I overuse just a warning). I hadn't actually seen this part before because my only experience of the show is from various bootlegs which all seem to miss the opening sequence, awkward. (I've paid my £12 now though guys so I'm legit)
Could do without the audience shots. They're so young. Sigh.
The overacting, I get why it's necessary on the stage, Dan in particular seems a bit over the top to begin with but I got used to it. A non-live recorded version would be my dream, for cutting out the audience shots and the screaming and toning down the acting, haha.
Audience again: there's always at least one fan in shot who doesn't seem to get the joke. Interesting.
(Pumped for the song, I'm finally gonna be able to hear that missing line that was always drowned out by screaming.)
"recycle bin", Phil, how long since you last touched a Microsoft computer though, really.
Dan's dad voice—sounds like Yogi Bear.
"probbo"
How do sound effect licences work? They used some Kevin MacLeod, maybe also some YouTube/iMovie stuff? Would they have had to pay to use those on the stage?
18 minutes in I finally realised I can watch in full screen, well done me.
getting sweaty boys
Phil's inflections when he says "I was trying to make a llama appear and I think something went wrong" are strikingly northern.
"furry situation" ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Appreciating Phil's silhouette against the microwave.
New drinking game: drink every time there's an audience shot and there's a mum looking bored/confused, drink twice if it's a dad.
"talking to the ghost of the girl I used to know"—loved the voice Dan put on to say this.
Phil's pronunciation of "nothing"—rhymes with "moth-ing"? (sorry 60% of this is just about how they pronounce words. #phanguistics.)
The audience go surprisingly wild for ISG. I guess I'm just surprised because everyone on IDB complains about it so much, lol.
Dan looks deeply (mistyped that as "deppy" lol) regretful in the ISG picture. I miss the days when he actually used to admit his favourite colour wasn't black, sigh.
Dan's makeup is getting patchy.
"Heyyy, whatdoyouwant" nice delivery
Imagine 2009 Dan getting off the train in Manchester, handing Phil an ice cube, and saying "Ice to meet you." That's ruined all my nice fluffy foetusphan thoughts.
Did Dan miss the mum's second line? Wasn't she meant to say something like "I'm concerned about whether your show is appropriate" or something?
Dan's pronunciation of "crafts"/"crafting" fluctuates nicely between the short a Phil uses and the long a that Dan used to use all the time. Are you posh or not boyo.
"2009–∞" aw
Was "Dil doll" improvised? (How much are some fans going to be disappointed when they realise how much of the seemingly improvised stuff is actually scripted?) Dan has an interesting reaction after the "family portrait", pretending to throw up.
Not appreciating the numerous pepe references, I just have a deep inexplicable loathing for frog-based memes.
"Daaaa … n" :D
The future news reports. "Get more bizz." I assume Phil wrote those, as he apparently did the ones in the tabinof reveal trailer.
Phil as an old man apparently gains a posh voice.
"PewdieTube", haha. There doesn't seem to be an audience reaction to that, interesting.
The whiskers they do on each other are the worst I've ever seen. I mean, after 75 years … (or at least after 7 years and about 50 live shows).
spotted on the microwave!
Samsung Galaxy 17546, nice.
Why does old Dan wear a beret? Did the existential crisis branding go so far that he had to become a starving artist?
The "bloody expensive" joke about the chairs fell a bit flat. (Moreover, I don't suppose Dan would actually care about their price, given his clothes-buying habits.)
I'm loving that neck crease. There are probably body parts more worthy of my attention but I just love a good neck crease.
"Fan Fiction" er
"I guess we're cowboys apparently"—not that that's been the case for the last 50 shows, right … + what happened with the alternative options they filmed? Future spon for the show?
I now need an AU where Dan and Phil are fashionable dogs.
Dan's little "thank you", lol.
I'm wondering who the posh lady narrating the fanfiction Fan Fiction is.
#getdanachaiselongue
Dan looks so fierce in the gold suit, hair starting to curl, nice.
Docco (warning this gets full at the end I'm no longer able to use words ok)
I love Phil's little backstage fist clench
"It's time"—from pinof 6? 7?
Dan sounds so fond when he says "dinosaur Phil".
Interesting that they spend so much time on the origin stories when there's already 2 (or 4?) pages on that in tatinof, and they're pretty much saying exactly the same thing as they said there. Surely most doc viewers are going to know this stuff even if they're not IDB-level stalkers.
Dan: "and I said let's do a book and a stage show"
The Draw Dil's life clips seem inserted in a bit of an odd place.
Nice "HI MY NAME IS [DAN]" sign in the audience.
"working with another creative voice was a bit of a challenge from them at first"—translation "we had a lot of arguments", right?
Phil looks so gleeful during the magic rehearsals.
YES, I'm so glad the song was actually Dan's thing, that really shows how they alter their personas for YouTube/performance contexts, pretending Phil's the one who wants to sing in the show. I'm going to watch the song rehearsal footage about 326452 times. And there's even a cheeky shot of the sheet music. Hallelujah.
"Our virtual son … slash creation." "In the Sims." ok you didn't need to do quite that much backtracking chill
Confused dad in the audience.
Dan singing the first three notes of O Fortuna.
The linting shot is great.
I like how they get on set and the first thing Phil points out is the microwave handle specifically.
They just look at each other so fondly all the time. Ugh.
The English countryside sequence looks like the Songs of Praise opening titles or something.
"a typical Phil Lester situation"
D-Hizzle and P-Lizzle, nice.
I love the bus tour, even though it's so scripted. The editing is great. Not their style though, so I'm guessing someone else did it?
Phil lying on the bunk, talking about sleeping on the bunk (I'm sure this has been discussed among all the busgate talk)
The closeup of their faces before rock paper scissors is startlingly reminiscent of the first Dan versus Phil videos. Dan even seems to look more like his 2009/2010 self in those closeups, really odd.
Sure you were that cool with taking a bunk, Dan, whatever.
The noise they both make after "that's a lake, Phil".
Shamelessly using the wrong door out of the cafe. wow fame has gone to their heads
Dan's in his khaki pyjamas.
Dan's hair is … pretty straight? when he gets out of the bunk? (as manged says and probs other people)
Does Niagara really rhyme with Viagra? (just looked it up and it does? Weird)
"Don't gamble." Thanks, Uncle Dan.
Phil asleep. I was not prepared for that.
"Captain Drilly McDrillerson."
what's their obsession with ascending to the roofs (rooves?) of performance venues
The mum getting emotional when Dan hugs her daughter, nice.
"they've got really good faces" ikr
Aw, the mums and dads being interviewed, cute.
They choose the crafts themselves? Interesting.
"You're on Relentless?" yeah wow dan slow down
Dan has such a massive mouth. I think this approximately once a day, but seriously.
Dil has a little scar on the knuckles of his right hand. Someone can work out who he is using that information, right? (joking?)
"It's my show nose." "Your shose."
A brief view of the script for the rarely seen "delicious cake option".
I really don't see how scrubbing the whiskers off each other is easier than getting the backstage people to do it, but ok …
so sweaty. my loves.
"I'm less scared of trying new things." omg stop

I can't believe these guys. there are various floating symbols throughout this montage and for the PINOF1 they just casually use a heart? I don't even know whether I should be or

I don't have much to contribute at this stage except for these three very important points-

1: The bed scene with sick Phil was adorable. I did notice that he didn't seem suprised for Dan to be there

2: I absolutely loved that the rummaging suitcase scene was Dan and a crew member looking for Phils shoes. That was domestic AF

3:I firmly believe that Phil created the whole bunk thing just to get footage of Dan awkwardly falling out of bed. I wish that they had gone with Drake sleeping in the bed so we got footage of them both doing that. I found it hilarious

Ok... That was something.
The show
I started watching it and I simply couldn't handle the cringyness of it, so when I got to the end of the 7SC I closed the video and watched the documentary. After that, later I watched the rest of the show and could handle it better. Still found it really cringy and weird to see a professional recording of it. I haven't seen TATINOF live, but the amount of spoilers I read, audios I listened and videos I watched from it didn't seem as weird to me. I think my problem was with Dan idk. For me his performance was pretty forced and didn't feel as natural as before with the spoilers I've seen... Phil was good, I think. But yeah, that's the general feeling I got from that. Really liked the magician Phil part and the end with the song (and the audience reactions were priceless)

The documentary
Now, that's what I was hyped for. The trailer got me thinking there would be lots of 'vloggy' moments and more personal point of views, so I was a little disappointed with the almost lack of it. Also the way they (mostly Dan) were talking about how we "weren't ready" for it and how it all would be in a post-TATINOF world and bla bla bla made me think there would be something more interesting, but oh well... It's not like I was expecting some big reveal or life changing moment, but it was a little underwhelming on that too. Besides that, the documentary served its purpose and showed what it was supposed to show: how they made the tour and how it was travelling around the country(ies). And, for that, I liked it a lot.

Some highlights for me:
-The rehearsing (of everything)
-Dan with the llama legs for the first time (hilarious!)
-Phil being cute (and sick, poor bb) with his pillow
-The bus tour: A+ editing, loved every second of that (even with their Oscar worthy performances on fighting for the bedroom idc)
-Bus breaking down: could have been a great vlog/video idea
-Phil sleeping and "i'm filming it" "oh? ohhhh!"
-The search for wi-fi saga
-All the backstage stuff was pretty cool and I loved seeing them getting their makeup done (especially Phil, he looked great there)
-59:19 BRAZIL REPRESENT!

Overall it was pretty good. Nice having some very HD video of them doing different things lol But I could have gone without the bedroom thing, it would be better if they simply ignored that because I can't believe for a second that poor Dan was left with that little bunk for the whole tour
tl;dr: I would have enjoyed TATINOF 10x better if I was there seeing it live and the documentary was good.

So in the doc they go on the roof of the dolby theater, and Dan says "it always feels like we aren't allowed to do this" - Did they ask to go on the roof of every theater they went too? Do they go to roofs often. is that a thing they do. its so anime lol.

Am I the only one that feels that there won't be any major change after this? Like so many people have mentioned that after this they'll move out, make big changes on their brand, etc. but the overall feeling I got now is that everything will continue as is.
Some people have mentioned the rebranding recently and I agree with this. I think rebranding just means that they won't feel obligated to say certain things anymore.
Some people act like their whole character is a branding. We shouldn't forget that their branding didn't come from lies but from things they actually liked and experienced. And some things that are part of their branding, are still things that they like today. Dan doesn't dress monochrome because of danisnotonfire, he genuinely likes that (as far as I know). Phil is quite aware of his young audience and even though he's not innocent, I highly doubt his channel will contain swearing anytime soon. They will not be different people now.
There are things that will change and there are things that won't. Everyone who watches their videos casually probably won't notice any change. And I also think that the changes they make won't happen overnight. They will just slowly get rid of the parts of their branding they don't like anymore and keep those they still relate to.
And btw, how dare anyone call the "whiskers" a cringe branding. The whiskers are part of the PINOFs. That's just how it is. It's not like they draw them on their face on a regular basis (as far as we know, I don't know what they get up to in their spare time ), it's tradition. Don't confuse the whisker tradition with the cringe llama branding. There's such a big difference. Stopping PINOF and/or the whiskers wouldn't be a thing I'd expect them to do.

Well, I just realised it's 2:36 am. I can't believe we live in a post tatinof world and I am tired and can't really process this.

Documentary thoughts under spoiler (haven't watched the show yet, will wait till the weekend when I can drink, not even joking)
So, I have to confess I couldn't watch it straight away because life, but I have zero restraint, so I read you guys' thoughts on my way home and I knew what I was getting into (you were all so upset in the beginning I actually hesitated before buying it, lol).

Liked it overall, definitely will rewatch multiple times, especially loved all the actual making of parts, they've worked really hard (why are all the trainers and creative people they've worked with (white) men, though? I guess, tumblr's getting to me, sorry), disappointed by the bus tour yadda yadda (why, oh why not just say you took turns? look at your life, look at your choices Deppy smh) - but not as much as some of you, I guess, because it was quite predictable, even if I hoped for something better (like some of you said, they won't come out in paid content - and they should have the decency not to do so if they ever do come out).

But. I am extremely disappointed, I would even say irritated by the fact that they haven't as much as mentioned fanfiction live in the doc and why they've made that (unfortunate) decision. I know I'm getting into a dangerous territory here, the word "fanservice" could be mentioned, who knows, so proceed at your own risk, but I have a lot of opinions about this (honestly, if I had time I'd get a third Master's only to write about queerbaiting and shipbaiting in contemporary media). YOU CAN'T AND MAKE UP YOUR OWN SLASHY FANFICTION AT THE SAME FUCKING TIME (sorry for yelling). Well, you can, but it's literal shipbaiting - hinting about something more without ever going through with it, what are you doing, reassess your life, you are better than Moffat. Like, I get they are real people, not characters, but at the same time they are, they are playing them every time they're on the internet, they've just written a show about those characters, own up to your fucking choice. I need them to at least address it in a live show. Sorry for ranting, but the decision to include fanfiction is the only one of theirs that I don't understand and can't even begin to explain however I try :(

Tatinof Show
Already saw the show live and watched a bunch of different clips from different shows so while watching I was eagerly waiting for it to finish so I could watch the documentary. It was interesting comparing this show to the ones I saw though.
Was the first 'Dil Doll' mention at the London show? I remember reading on GG that it was a genuine accidental innuendo and not something that was planned so I wonder if London was the first time Dan did that. Either way, clearly in this recorded show it was planned lol. Damn, I was most looking forward to seeing the cake fanfiction part since it was the only thing I hadn't seen yet. Maybe that'll be something they'll release on its own (at least I hope so, otherwise wtf)
Documentary
I found it pretty enjoyable! I think they did a good job at covering all the essentials in the making-of process. Obviously more vloggy/DITL style footage would've been nice but Dan had already told us it wasn't a DITL. At least we'll have DAPGO for the stories+pics.

I never knew I needed to see Phil lint-rolling Dan until now.
#What's the Wifi
Enjoyed the singing warm up part as well as all the shots of them with their fringes pushed back.

I'm not surprised in any way by what they showed us re:bed situation. After watching the 'chat about the documentary' video, I thought to myself: 'it would be funny if they showed Dan was in the bunk with the moved curtain' The whole tour bus tour segment was meant to be exaggerated because they were parodying MTV Cribs so that's probably why they continued to be super extra during the rock-paper-scissors for the bed part.

My opinions on why they included the Fanfiction bit
If the show is a homage to their past, fanfic is a big part of that. going back to their earlier liveshows they couldn't go a week without people asking if they read the newest ones, and dan at least always said yes. Heck dan did a three part video series on shipping, fandoms and and all that. They acknowledged it in dan's tumbler tag, and in the book. I think it would be more strange to ignore that it exists entirely than to use it and make it your own and make fun of it. There is power in that.

Also it wasnt their fault, Dil made them do it They messed with him, so he messed with them back.
Also why is everyone talking about the bed and not the clear shower curtain??
