Dan & Phil Part 31: You're stuck with me for life
Whenever I see phan pics at an airport, I get mixed feelings.
1. In the scenario they genuinely ran into deppy, that's a nice for those fans and I'm happy
2. Or they're stalking them. I don't like that, for obvious reasons. I have a feeling these girls have done the same thing lots of other phans have, haven't they. Do I even need to check?

Hung around the airport for a day? Yeah, probably.000dia000 wrote:Whenever I see phan pics at an airport, I get mixed feelings.

IckleMissMayhem's evil fic writing alter ego.
I come out of the lurker hole to say that i scrolled through elsagulden's comments on the picture with deppy, and saw someone asked how she knew they were at that time at the airport. She said she just waited for them, and the girl who asked that question said something like: "oh, that's so smart!! I will remember that If they will come to my country!!"000dia000 wrote:Whenever I see phan pics at an airport, I get mixed feelings.

I have always disliked airport-meeting-pictures but this just made me so... i've no words for it.
It seems like they both think waiting hours for them is absolutely normal and not creepy/stalker-y at all. I just don't understand why you'll think that.. because you know they always flight from heathrow doesn't give you any right to just go and wait for them
I just want to say that I really agree with thisconfusedpanda wrote:I feel like, with the tweets in the hashtag, while yes many are rude, crude and really bad, this isn't anything different than from what they see in their @ mentions, comments and younow questions on a daily/weekly bases. It doesn't excuse this behavior at all, however, it does mean they are more likely to be desensitized to questions like these after seeing so many of them. I highly doubt they'll end PINOF or act differently towards eachother in the video just because a few thousand strangers asked them to do some invasive things. If that was the case, they would've ended it and anything to do with yt years ago. As long as thousands of other people send in the really dumb and silly q's, that's all they really look for, which is what people are doing anyways. (Also they can easily just blacklist certain phases/words if they really don't wanna see those type of tweets anyways.)
And maybe it's just the fact my twitter is tailored to who I follow but when I go on the top tweets, there's literally only a handful of invasive comments. The rest are filled with just the stupid questions they look for in PINOF q's.
Some fans may feel like they're entitled to troll/say this stuff because of how chill Dan and Phil have been with everything this year, and that's not a good thing to be entitled too. It's definitely not ok to ask for them to "come out" or to have them act out their weird fantasies or anything else that's in the not ok line. Certain things, like the "propose" ones or the "move" and "get a dog" ones, are clearly a joke and we all know they wouldn't do something like that in a video anyways, but it's not necessarily harmful for people to ask, IMO, but I guess could be in some kind of gray area. But not all the questions are along those lines, sure those ones may seem meh, but I have seen some really good ones and I hope they use those ones.
To wrap up this rant, I'll say this, dan and phil have been doing all this for many years now, not just PINOF, but having to deal with invasive questions throughout social media. They clearly have a way with dealing with it and it works for them. They know and we know, you can't really censor the internet, people feel entitled to say vile things even though they shouldn't. They could easily ask for people not to send in questions like that, but people will have a meltdown and claim "it's 2012 all over again!!" Or they'll just do it anyways. There's not much they can actually do about the situation, unfortunately.
You basically said what I was thinking in a beautiful way. I honestly see no problem in the tag being the way it is. We don't have to place boundaries when they haven't. I'm sure is they were uncomfortable with it they'd let us know but they're used to everything thats posted so idk. I feel like sometimes the phandom self-polices too much?? Like the pinof questions have always been like this except this year phan members at being more bold and loud. I'm sure dan and phil won't cringe from seeing a kissing or proposal question since they're used to it by now and even tease us about it. The fans are only becoming more comfortable because deppy joke about it so we know that they know. Anyway pinof is a fan service at this point, it alway has been, so I'm excited to see how far they take it.

They flew from Gatwick I think today, I don't think any flights go to Berlin from Heathrow. I couldn't find any when I was trying to price up a potential trip.Boterham wrote:I come out of the lurker hole to say that i scrolled through elsagulden's comments on the picture with deppy, and saw someone asked how she knew they were at that time at the airport. I've been lurking here for ages. I finally registered today, not to share incredible information, insightful thoughts or phan proof. But to ask if anyone knows where Phil got his thermal blanket/quilt from his latest sleepless night video. Its cold, and I covet it!

But D&P being used to it doesn't make it a right way to act, from the fans' side. It's intrusive and above all, it's provocative. The fans aren't asking because they genuinely care, they are badgering because they think poking at the sleeping bear will wake it up (am I using the metaphor correctly?). I can't say whether these questions actually bother Dan and Phil or whether by now it just slides off their back, but it doesn't equal permission to do it, either. But that behaviour of persistently asking questions about a private topic (such as relationships, which most fans will be aware they keep to themselves, phan-real or not), isn't just rude in general, it's annoying for us to witness and it's also showing a huge lack of respect to D&P as people above all.kuensukki wrote: I just want to say that I really agree with this

There are so many questions and challenges they could request. Funny ones, silly ones, deep ones. But no, they think they are being funny and risqué by asking for something infamously taboo. Ah yes, it's hilarious, I'm dying of laughter over here. It reminds me of my previous talks in the past about the fans having no idea of boundaries, and that delusion that they are somehow "allowed" to act this way as though it's your friend you're challenging to a dare. Much like Glozell didn't respect Dan's autonomy and whether he actually felt comfortable or not in that situation, she just took silence as a "yes" (which as we're trying to teach the world, lack of "no" doesn't equal "yes"), fans who ask these questions don't respect whether those questions are tasteful, useful in any way, whether they paint us all with the same bad stroke, or whether you ask strangers those questions in the first place.

Really disappointing that people act this way, yet sadly enough not surprising. Seems like a lot of people forget that Dan and Phil are real people and not props. We saw that with the pinof questions as well.Boterham wrote:I come out of the lurker hole to say that i scrolled through elsagulden's comments on the picture with deppy, and saw someone asked how she knew they were at that time at the airport. It's so cute how he names his Pokemon. Can't have been too upset with Phil's cheeky "it's lit" in the liveshow. What's the "me tbh" one? I've only played Pokemon Go and I don't recognise it.

IDK, I'm seeing nonstop flights from LHR, LTN, LCY and STN to Berlin (TXL and SXF) as well as LGW. But being big boys, I'm not sure they would want to fly some of airlines that pack people in like sardines, so likely they flew BA.MoonPride wrote:They flew from Gatwick I think today, I don't think any flights go to Berlin from Heathrow. I agree so much with both of you. I was also flabbergasted by the use of screen shots from the V-Day video. Requesting that they either react to or reenact the scene. Imo those very much crossed a line.pilotlight wrote:Nicely said, melon lord.

As to the boys saying something about it if it bugged them...would they? I don't think they would. It never works, and sometimes makes it worse. Like showing a bully that what they do is getting to you. Because really most of those comments were bully behavior not good natured fun.

I haven't been looking at PINOF suggestions, but I think using V-day screenshots is incredibly inappropriate. If I were them I would not react to them. (maybe Phil will want to send an angry DM LOL)

I agree with all of this, but particularly this part. This is the height of fans feeling entitled to make Dan and Phil dance like monkeys. Particularly, seeing fans use personal, private moments/speculation to try and bait reactions out of Dan and Phil makes me feel cold all over. Seeing fans feel like it's their right to do it just makes it all that worse.melon lord wrote:fans who ask these questions don't respect whether those questions are tasteful, useful in any way, whether they paint us all with the same bad stroke, or whether you ask strangers those questions in the first place.

I don't think I have much to add about the disturbing/problematic tweets in the PINOF tag. I have no problem with fanservice-y content if it's content that Dan and Phil both decided to include on their own--like the Fanfiction Live segment in TATINOF. But it disturbs me when fans try to provoke them (or real people in general) into doing things that are just, as other people have said, queer fetishization and the acting out of fan fantasies. It's invasive and gross and rude.
Unfortunately, I don't think that Dan and Phil could say anything that would put a stop to that kind of behavior. They tried before, and it didn't work, and to me that's really sad.

This made me laugh. I wouldn't have thought of it earlier until he pointed it out, but the Munchlax/Snorlax line really does sound like a simplified version of Dan. Also Phil is going to evolve into chubby cheeks Raticate, and that is so amusing to me. (The chubby cheeks will probably be full of Dan's cereal and misc sweets. *chortling*)majitzu wrote:

They are all pokemon you find in the first route of the game so he probably will stop using most of them as soon as he finds something better. I don't disagree that the "phan come out already" and vday screenshots are innapropiate! Those totally are. The silly challenges on the other hand seem harmless to me. If someone wants to joke about dan proposing to phil or vice versa and make it into a challenge they should be allowed. I agree that they're not our puppets to act out our phantasies etc. but given the past pinofs, they've been pretty complacent about acting things out which leave me with the impression that they don't care as much as we do. Even the tumblr tag, when someone sent a pic of them kissing they barely reacted so I bet they're used to it. At the end of the day, they have the power to choose what questions they want and don't want to use. They also edit so they'll get to choose how the video turns out, not the fans.melon lord wrote:But D&P being used to it doesn't make it a right way to act, from the fans' side. Oh, I know (except Munchlax, which you get as a Mysterious Gift--I hadn't planned to use mine bc I've never used Snorlax before, but joke's on me, it looks like it might be part of my permanent team; it's really good for catching wild pokemon so...), I'm ahead of them in the game already.majitzu wrote:They are all pokemon you find in the first route of the game so he probably will stop using most of them as soon as he finds something better. I want to see Phil's team, too! Mostly to see what he nicknames them. The early wild Pokemon are not especially interesting to me, except for Pichu (and probs Growlithe). For the Pokemon themselves, I would be more interested in the teams they settle in by the end of the game.
