The joke was that Tom was doing and saying things that came off creepy when he didn't have any bad intentions. Part of the joke was that that kind of behavior is not okay.

I didn't really like this new DAPG video. Whenever they do an ad, they never seem very into the game that they're playing. I generally have no problem witn #spon videos as long as they're good, but the ads on DAPG are almost never good.

Two phan related things that stood out to me:

0:30 It seems like Dan's mind went straight to to the shipping aspect which is why he pulled that weird/amused face

7:36 He calls the assistant Phil and himself Lady Layton, then goes on to say "I SHIP IT." Probbly wasn't intentional but still

when i was a kid i had a full length poster of prof layton from a nintendo magazine because i had such a big crush on him. still lowkey do.
i never like their spon videos because their regular content tends to stick to a couple styles of gaming that they want to put out so anything else just feels a little jarring. if they uploaded more regularly and did more different styles rather than like sims-platforming-online quizzes most of the time then they could fit game ads in a lot more seamlessly imo
my name is jaejmine masters and i have something to say. dan and phil have fucked up japan :japhan:

I think I just don't have the attention span for games with lots of text or talking. The puzzles looked interesting and I did enjoyed the voices they gave the characters, but the gameplay was pretty meh for me. I did have to laugh at them being excited for the dress-up options, though. Pfffft, forget solving mysteries, let's explore Katrielle's fashion options.

Phil loving the "daddy's girl outfit" was the best thing in the video for me, along the Johnlock mentions

I actually enjoyed the video and wish it lasted longer, I am now really thinking about getting the game because I loved Layton so much. But I don't want to spend money on it now lmao

One thing that stood out to me was Dan's comment about house plants: "she opens the curtains, that's why her plants are alive and ours are not"

But all the plants they showed us are in very bright places with windows? Why would he say that, if it wasn't about the beautiful moon room he specifically said he never opens the curtains in
Will probably never be over the BONCAS and the beauty of Phil Lester.

I watched the collab vids, and can’t say that I’m impressed with either.

First I watched Tomska’s one and I guess this wasn’t my type of humor case I didn’t laugh once. Also I can’t say that I was really impressed with anyone’s acting.

Markiplier’s video was just pretty bad imo. It was hard to follow (I wasn’t really sure what was going on), which wasn’t helped by it being hard to understand what people were saying.

Both bloopers vids were funnier than the actual vids.

Yes, I get that was supposed to be the joke. I think it's distasteful considering these are real life things that happen to women at the hands of men every single day with no real-life consequences for the perpetrators and justice for the victims. Given the context, I just don't find those things a laughing matter. Especially when it's framed as 'lol harmless clueless guy gropes girl cause he's socially awkward!!! CRINGE'. No, guys grope women because they feel entitled to women's bodies.

I believe you guys saying Tomska is a good guy. I'm not familiar with him at all so I'll take your word for it. I'm reassured to hear that he's not one of the bad basement-dwelling trolls that hate women. Being a good guy doesn't mean that you can't make things that hurt other people, though.

I don't want to fight with anyone so now I've said my piece, I think I'll stop ruining the happy vibes and let everyone enjoy the new gaming video in peace.

I caught up on this thread earlier today and you're all wild. And absolutely insane. But mostly amazing

Dunno what it was with me today but neither Dan's collab with Tom or the Layton's Mysery video didn't tickle my pickle today. Tom has done much better sketches, but maybe my expectation were too high? As far as the DAPG video goes, in the beginning I was incredibly distracted and annoyed by the voice acting because of how bad and monotone it was compared to the animation. And I kept zoning out during the gameplay, but it did seem like they were genuinely enjoying playing it which was nice considering it was a spon. Didn't watch the Markiplier thing, I have zero interest in that

That is 100% me. I liked the video, it was cute, but I would prefer more puzzles and less talking. Maybe DnP should just play dress up games, has anyone told them that there are literally thousands of those?

Toms sketch: I laughed in the end. It wasn't his best, but it definitely wasn't horrible. Won't rewatch it, but I was still entertained. Personally, I didn't find it offensive at all and I really enjoyed Dan's acting. I also think that Phil would actually be an ok actor, but what I really crave is Phil as a director. I think he would be great.

Markaplier vid: I didn't get it. The only worthwhile part for me was Phil knocking everything down. I love him.

just for fun here's a list of everyone's ideas about "that week in march" that we're supposed to ask about in august since it was first mentioned in dan's 14 March 2017 liveshow. (Note that theorizing involves various levels of sincerity, obvs.)

- failed house renting/buying attempt (blackdenim, SquishPhan, swofro, plath, vortexofphan, phanofcats, VengefulBlue)
- complications involving moving out of old london apartment (000dia000, momoroki, kalli, awkwardly, flarequake, alittledizzy)
- secret project involving a production company... (confusedpanda, VengefulBlue)
- ...that is a sitcom (malday, Amiaw)? a documentary(malday, leaveimreading)? surrealist horror film (lurker)? some other kind of movie (interuptfireworks)?
- they had a discussion and decided phil will change his hair in august... (lurker)
- ... or phil had a failed haircut appointment in march... (000dia000 )
-... that involved ditching fabrice (Catallena)
- video demonetization problems (momoroki)
- #phandivorce (momoroki, moonbeamsonthepath, darque_red)
- successful house purchase but it needs renovations (swofro, fancybum, Catallena, twix)
- #phanwedding (swofro, Ablissa)
-... involving a wedding announcement via buzzfeed quiz (alittledizzy)
- some family thing... (phanofcats)
-... that is an adoption (phanofcats)? that is phil's mum's birthday (susanisnotafish)?
- phil's gonna rebrand (sparkle, somethingsketchy, lurker)
- new joint channel (sparkle)
- dan attempting vegan diet (leaveimreading, somethingsketchy)

Yeah, I wasn't feeling too much love for the gaming vid today. I didn't find it as boring as some of the apps they've played (oh god the dragon games) but it was just kind of meh. There were a few funny moments and I'll always enjoy them leaning close together over an iPad why am I like this jfc but, eh. Plus I was absolutely not expecting a vid today what with Tom's vid releasing so that was nice.

Actually the vid just sort of cemented a feeling I have that maybe Dream Daddy wouldn't actually be that entertaining for me? Like when I first heard people telling them to play it I was all for it. But the more I think about it the more I realize that I never really enjoy the more text-y/visual novel-ish videos they put out. For example, I'm not sure the specific reasons why everybody seems to talk about disliking Horse Prince, but for me it was mainly just because it was all dialogue. It's odd because I watch their liveshows where they just talk to a camera so it's not like I have such a short attention span that I need non-stop action and witty banter, lol. I guess because if they're reading lines of dialogue they're not exactly free to inject their own commentary.

DAPG-wise I'm mainly just hyped for more golf assuming they're actually going to do it like Dan mentioned in his ls.

I don't know anything about Dream Daddy but if you get to like build your own Daddy or whatever (the whole daddy thing is not my thing so idek what's happening) but like I've heard people say character customization is a big part of it so they could just like create their characters or something. We know how Dan loves that.

Breaking my silence to say OMG DANIEL AND PHIL ACTUALLY PLAY A LAYTON GAME ON THE GAMING CHANNEL?!!

Anyway, I have the game on my phone, I am already on case 5. It is the reason why I've been absent most week and it is draining my phone battery so much. It just launched last week but many people are waiting for October release for 3ds. I think they don't do the game justice with that video because it is a good game and incredible franchise that you need to play alone for max enjoyment (and frustration). But I guess, since they want to read all the text outloud, it had gotten a bit dragging.

There are also this website http://layton.world where people can solve puzzle irl while we are counting down to the October launch.

Also, because Daniel is a fake fan who claim had play the game before but doesn't remember starchenscarfen from the previous game, there is also a full movie which are available on yt if anyone is interested

That's all from me going offtopic promoting the hella out of this franchise. Hahaha. I just have full love about layton series and I feel like the new dapg vid is giving bad impression of it because I also doesn't really like the new vid. That is all.

twix, that's a fun compilation and also, in some ways, a pretty good summary of idb as a whole maybe everyone who gets it right can have "psychic phil" as their user rank for a week once (if?) the mystery is unveiled

i haven't watched the gaming video yet, i actually think i'll keep it for tomorrow when i'll probably be looking forward to it more.

I liked the video. It wasn't the most exciting one but they did seem to enjoy it, or they're just in a really good mood for other reasons buzzfeed sponsored wedding, obvs and it bled over into the gaming video. Also the lean-in-and-giggle quota was through the roof. I don't think that one is destined for my 'rewatch multiple times' list but but it was a mellow way to pass twenty minutes while I worked and I'm never gonna complain about that.

Phil was wearing the same shirt as his liveshow yesterday. I wonder if they had one of their marathon filming days? Possibly even today as well. In two days they could probably prefilm enough videos to last them for a couple weeks, rolling them out two or three a week. Though... I want to know how the streaming thing is gonna play into this as well.

This also made me laugh because later on Dan references how Ernest wants to impress Kat, and also that he stole the clock hand just to spend time with her... what are you saying about Phil there buddy? Are you sure he's not your Lady Layton? ;)

I liked the video reasonably, though I hate that I now want to know the ending since I don't own a device which I can get the game on (or the £16 to buy it), even though it doesn't actually seem like it would be that engaging for an adult (though seems like what I would have loved when I was a kid). Or maybe it would be, and deppy just spent forever on the super easy "learn how the game works" portion, in which case maybe it didn't work super well as an ad. Anyway, I never really mind spons on the gaming channel, because they mostly seem on par with a lot of the other games they choose to play, so it doesn't really change the experience that much for me, as compared to like, Google Feud or MHP.

Everybody place your bets! I'm putting my money on a family thing. Maybe something with Martyn and Cornelia? Wedding or baby perhaps? They have said that they will be at SITC, so maybe I'm wrong, but they did just came back from a trip to Sweden and Cornelia has been a bit cryptic on Twitter of late. I hope it's within the rules to say that since they both have public twitter accounts... I'll remove the remark if it's not, ok mods?

That week in March: I just went back and rewatched this, since it's been talked about so much and paraphrased a lot, (it starts at 29:07), and I hadn't remembered that he says "I've had a challenging week, or, these last 10 days, it's kind of funny... remind me to tell you about this week in about... 5 months, okay?" It's interesting that he easily comes up with the exact number of 10, which makes me think maybe it was a very concrete thing which happened between those 10 days.

But he also says this in response to someone mentioning his tweet about his grandma reading that vulgar comment and then calling him, saying "oh yeah, that also happened! I've had a challenging week" as if she called him while he was busy or stressed about whatever it is. So it makes me think it could have been an "everything's happening at once" kind of deal.

I dunno though... it could be a work thing or a moving thing, or maybe both at once which made it extra crazy.

So much content today, I spent 3 hours watching GaryC on YouNow between all of this. Phew.

I liked everything except for Tom's lines in his video and the alien's baggy head (funny to discover it was Daniel Dobbs under all that). I like Tom's stuff, though it's closer to the edge humour than I like generally, but like with the British filmmaker crowd, there's still so much reliance on the dumb/immature sexist young man trope, it's really tired and been a lot less funny for a few years now, for me anyway. On another note I was glad to see a curvy woman playing the lead there.

I thought Dan was good, both his advice, so well done to Tom there, and his acting. Throwing the gun was hilarious, the way he grabbed it from Tom was cute, and his face at the end after he said the sad line about his penis, just the same as in Mark's video after he said his piece. Both times he realises what he's just said and how bleak it sounds, then this sad subtle look. What is with Dan and saying penis, though? This is a Tomska sketch so really I should ask it of him, just reminded me of Dan in the pastel edit and Google feud videos trying to get Phil to type penis or temporary tattoo one

The bloopers were fun from both Mark and Tom, particularly Phil knocking the light over, glad we got to see that after hearing them talk about it. They totally blooped on not even showing dark-side JacksFilms' power in the main video. Mostly the bloopers were Jack wiggling so really Phil was the funniest thing in that. Tom's one was really interesting for seeing how Dan played different bits and more for seeing his asides when he messed something up and broke character. The "ignore me, I'm being unhelpful" bit was interesting, he was so quiet with it and not wanting to be annoying or take up time.

It would have been amazing to see him go all action-hero, that's the sort of thing that, tbh I don't think about on my own, but would be amazing for him and Phil to do. I thought in Tatinof that Phil was a way better actor, he was relaxed and subtle, the same kinda vibe all the way through, and particularly good at his cheeky git act impersonating Dan's first video, though his strop over the early argument and getting stuck on the lion were a bit too cute. I thought Dan was good some of the time, but he drew things out too dramatically sometimes and was over the top easily, especially when he stomped off with the shopping trolley.

In older things Phil has been good like that James video there and his other old quirky/dark/creative videos, but in later things like Ashens' sofa quest he's not, and it showed a bit in Mark's video too. I think a lot of the problem is him being AmazingPhil acting cute, making a face or something and it's too much. His voice acting's always been amazing and it comes across more low-key, he just gets fully into the voice and bam, total character.

I loved the gaming video. I'd have downloaded the game just to finish the first quest if it was free, but I'm not paying over £5 for any app let alone that much (failed spon for me). Their voices made it, I especially loved Dan as the sad dog and Phil as the squishy-faced policeman. There's a screenshot of them leaning towards each other and the iPad, both smiling and pointing at it, and it looks just like a stock photo in an advert for great fun games to play with your partner. Amazing.

Under the cut cos this post is long already.

I've never played a game like that cos they bore me witless so I'm not experienced in puzzles, I was impressed by their lateral thinking. Actually I figured the K out just before they did, so maybe it wasn't very hard, you could just see the way the shapes work. I love the outfit options too, gotta be careful spending money on those. Phil's "daddy's girl" bit was too funny. It took me a moment before I realised they just meant it's the outfit her dad wore as a detective. There were so many cute moments in this one, I even remember one. Phil at the beginning saying he'd be Sherlock Holmes because he's a better detective and Dan's "you what, mate?" reaction. Cheeky of Phil to say, but fun bants.

They both look really good too; I noticed Dan's hair right away, a bit more wavy than curly and brushed more to the side, also he said he had a haircut on Tuesday.

Wait. Martyn and Cornelia will be at SITC and Dan and Phil will not? I mean I know they run the merch store but... So Phil's mum's birthday is on Wednesday, SITC starts Friday. So I'm guessing D&P will be out of town that weekend. Wedding while the Lesters are in town, then jetting off for their honeymoon in Japan obviously. I had suggested Martyn and Cornelia getting married (what's their ship name? Marnelia? Mookdog?) but if they have to work...

Well, Cornelia tweeted in the affirmative yesterday when someone @ed her and Martyn with the question. But that doesn't mean it's for whole thing, she just said "Yes!"

If you consider "that week in March" to be a catalyst for something that happens in August-September then a failed buying attempt/moving again or the completion of a project seem the most plausible to me.

If you take the "other commitments" in August during SITC to be separate from what happened in March then that opens a whole new world of possibilities.

I think they're maybe related but not the same,at least they could be.Whatever the week in march might not be the same thing, but it's something that can't be revealed until the thing in August happens, the thing Dan happened to know pretty much an exact date for. I don't know if I'm making any sense. I mean i have thought but they're the nonsense thoughts of someone who's been sat in a 90 degree house all day

I thought the gaming video was quite sweet - the game itself wasn't super entertaining as it was so text-heavy, but they seemed to be in a giggly mood and I'm always happy to watch twenty minutes of them forgetting about the general concept of personal space. Dan saying Lady Layton's voice was a combination of Hermione Granger and Beatrix Potter made me wonder if he ever watched the 90's version of Peter Rabbit as a kid, that was my fave show when I was little and the opening/end credits used to make me cry (did anyone else watch that show? A classic tbh).

Haven't watched Tom's or Mark's videos as if I'm honest I have no particular interest in either of them, neither of them really sound like my thing

Re: that week in March - the closer it gets to August the more insatiably curious I become. I'm preparing myself for it to be a) incredibly anti-climactic or b) forgotten about by Dan completely. The fact that Martyn and Cornelia are supposedly going to be at SITC but not Dan and Phil is interesting, and makes me think it's not Mr. and Mrs. Lester visiting that's preventing them from going. Curiouser and curiouser ...
