lefthandedism wrote: Tue Jun 26, 2018 2:31 pm There's a meme that floats through the phandom periodically that really frustrates me: that Dan is not all that smart. It usually takes the form of "Dan thinks he's smarter than he obviously is"; sometimes it's thinly-veiled shade against his academic achievements. It's totally fine if Dan's way of expressing himself is not everyone's cup of tea, but I like to hear what Dan has to say because it usually gives me something to think about. :ribena:
yikes, i for sure dont like that meme and im slightly disappointed that its actually a thing? (really people?) theres many different kinds of "intelligence" and i feel like society as a whole sometimes views people who havent finished their schooling as "inferior". yeah sure, they can argue that better education allows for more opportunities but so does other things. just because its the traditional path doesnt mean its the ONLY path to take in life.

dan is definitely one smart boi. for one, his emotional intelligence is probably very high (im not an expert so dont quote me on that). im just basing it from the fact that people who had or is suffering from some type of depression or anxiety are usually more empathic to other people who are going through the same struggles. theyre more capable of noticing subtle body languages and cues, has more of an understanding on how to support other people in such situations, etc. also dan is very aware of the current affairs; hes known to have talked and has shown awareness of any musical (or any other media really, hes also a gamer and thats a whole 'nother skill under his belt), cultural and political topics during his livestreams. take away the fact that he dropped out of law school, you still cant argue the fact that HE GOT INTO LAW SCHOOL. do yall know how hard it is to get into one in the first place?

so yeah, tldr; danny boi IS smarter than he seems. fite me

I think you are mistakenly applying how things work in the US or Canada on the uk. Admission to law school in the UK is a much more casual process. http://www.futureproject.ca/barriers-en ... lt-canada/ explains some of the differences.
That said I think Dan is a smart guy too and plenty of smart guys don't have degrees. But what are you going to do against people judging them? The fandom is one big mess of speculation and projections.
I like when Dan is opinionated, even if I don't agree with him he usually makes a point that I can at least relate too. Sadly he's been getting less and less outspoken imo. He sticks to safe subjects. Even then, a lot of over the top criticism comes his way and you can see it has impacted how freely he expresses himself. "Just stick to positive opinions" seems to be the guideline for any youtuber.

I find this picture so aesthetically pleasing but it also makes my heart soar to see dnp and troye's names next to each other there. It's crazy to see that the American tour is starting today too

Look at them just being “Dan and Phil” all over the world. Don’t even need surnames. Proud :thumb:

So, I'm reading on twitter that they've been turning people away at the m&g if they didn't have a matching ID for their ticket. Is this really true? If so, I'm worried there'll be major drama everywhere...

Oh yikes. That sounds like something that would be theater policy. I wonder if it was on the email from the theater and because none of the UK/Europe venues checked, people just ignored it?

Definitely a possibility that other venues will require it as well, though.

I'm so glad I'm not the only person seeing Dans golden eyelids because I've noticed it and now I cant UNSEE it

Also re: Dan and intelligence. Academic achievements aren't everything but UoM isn't easy to get into. I'm still not entirely sure how I got in, and I didnt do something as competitive as Law either. Law asks for AAA, and theres about 9 applications for every place. A lot of students at Manchester are Oxbridge rejects who've been to private school and are unbelievably privileged, getting into Manchester is an achievement in and of itself especially for people from less privileged backgrounds.

Like I said though, education isn't everything. Dans very articulate, he just has a tendency to waffle. I think he blends concepts very well and I know that some people think he chats shit and talks a whole load of nothing, but I disagree. He might waffle and beat around the bush a little, but he can also succinctly and articulately talk about topics in a way that is, ultimately, accessible. And accessible to audiences that might not have the ability to sit and read a book, or read Academic Journals. Its very much a skill, one I have been trying to cultivate for years and its incredibly difficult. He presents difficult topics in a way that is both comedic and informative, and yes in liveshows he might be 'danisnotabletoshutup' but even unedited he is still pretty eloquent. For example, Daniel and Depression shows a FUCK LOAD of skill on a topic that would be so easy to fuck up.

And if in doing this he adds a few dick jokes I'm all for it. Nothing in a dinof has ever made me laugh quite as hard, or as unexpectedly, as 'laughter, food, and sex.

This post is making me want him to upload so badly - please give me what I want, today has sucked lol (that doesnt mean i want him to upload today, i've just had a day )

It was definitely the NICE thing to do, for sure. I don't know if 'right' is the word I'd use because it makes it sound like they have some kind of moral obligation to force venues to waive policy if fans throw a loud enough tantrum, and that's kind of dangerous precedent to set in general. But I am definitely glad everyone who bought their ticket secondhand got in and it looks so far like everyone had fantastic experiences!

Dans is like Gerard Ways autograph, which can either be read as 'G xo' or 'sex'. It either says 'cry' 'gay' or 'lrg'

Phil's on the other hand - please explain because all i'm seeing is 'mould'

I guess it depends on whether people were informed or not. If they were and ignored it, the boys shouldn't have to do anything, but if they weren't, it's good of them to go and fix it - they're not directly responsible for the venue, but they're still the "face" of it all.
The reason I'm wondering whether people were informed is that I never got any email from my venue other than to send me my ticket, and I was not told about anything really, other than what D&P said themselves. No idea how it is for the US part of the tour though. Another thing to consider is people buying from someone else, in that case the seller might be at fault.

I'm seeing "memes", but that doesn't suit Phil too much

This situation is kind of reminding me of when that dad freaked out on them at the book signing for something out of their control. I'm really glad everyone got their rightful vip experience though

Hahaha! I'm cackling  :stan: although if Capita£ester can somehow get on that, the boys will never be for want again.

I know it's been said, but goodness they look good! 2018 is really doing wonders for both, and Phil's new confidence has really made him shine. I hope they continue the trend and don't tire themselves out much on this leg of the tour. I've done many cross-country road trips in the states and it can quickly get exhausting.

Oh, looks like Phil has found some donuts  Though no pancakes as of yet :pancakes: Can we start a Pancake Watch 2018?

Phil really has a sweet tooth, doesn't he? I wonder who forces the other to eat the vegetables in their relationship? Do they take turns being responsible adults? For their wellbeing, I hope someone does. :salad:

thanks for filling me in on uk post-secondary admission things, @Stakhanov and @sparkle. im canadian and i couldnt have known better. at first, my main reasoning is that youll still need some type of prerequisites for applying despite of what it is youre applying for and i just went off-base without research because of stereotypes told me that law is usually quite challenging. anyways, i still stand by the fact that him not having that pricey piece of paper in his resume doesnt mean hes stupid, hes still quite intelligent over many other things regardless.

also i have nothing to add to that, i just quoted cz i agree

ps. im getting worried about phil's sugar consumption....he must be one Very Tired Dad™ for him to consume all those sugar for some quick bursts of energy. i know hes a coffee person too but dang, phillip
(also i was this close to making a "just in case i need some sweetness in my life" "but you have dan!" reference but)

Ok I thought the needing a matching ID with ticket sounded familiar so I went back and looked at the forum when tickets were first released and found this post:

I was just reading some of the website t&c's, and they're really trying to make it clear that you need ID which is really good, I really hope they stop some of the touts this time round. I read this on one site:
"Names of the lead ticketholder or purchaser will be also be printed on the tickets in the transaction so please make sure that you bring ID that corresponds to the this name when you come to the show on the night. For example, if Jane Smith buys 4 tickets for her daughter and 3 friends, every ticket will have ‘Jane Smith’ printed on it. If Jane Smith is not attending, she must make sure that her daughter and 3 friends have ONE piece of Jane Smith ID between them – for example a passport, driver’s licence or credit/debit card with name on. Anyone without one piece of ID that corresponds to their group ticket name will not be allowed entry to the show"
I have nothing else to add I just knew it was familiar for some reason.

Oh, good catch. I wonder if Dan and Phil will make some kind of reminder announcement then? Or if they're stepping back off that.

okay now i can literally only see mpreg written on that card from phil

Also not completely deppy related, but i randomly met Trixie Mattel tonight while i was at work (shes staying at the hotel i work at tonight cause she has a show here tomorrow) and she's one of the only people i stan almost as much as deppy. I was actually able to remain calm and have a conversation with her so that gives me hope that i won't freak out too much meeting the boys at ii next month
(also trixie is soo sweet in person omg)

yep, rize said they'd be back 'next week' last wednesday and deppy have the next two days off so i'm thinking liveshow probably tomorrow (wednesday). but i do wonder what time they'll do it. will they do it in the afternoon here so that it's the same time as it usually is for everyone around the world?
