So much content today, I spent 3 hours watching GaryC on YouNow between all of this. Phew.
I liked everything except for Tom's lines in his video and the alien's baggy head (funny to discover it was Daniel Dobbs under all that). I like Tom's stuff, though it's closer to the edge humour than I like generally, but like with the British filmmaker crowd, there's still so much reliance on the dumb/immature sexist young man trope, it's really tired and been a lot less funny for a few years now, for me anyway. On another note I was glad to see a curvy woman playing the lead there.
I thought Dan was good, both his advice, so well done to Tom there, and his acting. Throwing the gun was hilarious, the way he grabbed it from Tom was cute, and his face at the end after he said the sad line about his penis, just the same as in Mark's video after he said his piece. Both times he realises what he's just said and how bleak it sounds, then this sad subtle look. What is with Dan and saying penis, though? This is a Tomska sketch so really I should ask it of him, just reminded me of Dan in the pastel edit and Google feud videos trying to get Phil to type penis or temporary tattoo one
The bloopers were fun from both Mark and Tom, particularly Phil knocking the light over, glad we got to see that after hearing them talk about it. They totally blooped on not even showing dark-side JacksFilms' power in the main video. Mostly the bloopers were Jack wiggling so really Phil was the funniest thing in that. Tom's one was really interesting for seeing how Dan played different bits and more for seeing his asides when he messed something up and broke character. The "ignore me, I'm being unhelpful" bit was interesting, he was so quiet with it and not wanting to be annoying or take up time.
It would have been amazing to see him go all action-hero, that's the sort of thing that, tbh I don't think about on my own, but would be amazing for him and Phil to do. I thought in Tatinof that Phil was a way better actor, he was relaxed and subtle, the same kinda vibe all the way through, and particularly good at his cheeky git act impersonating Dan's first video, though his strop over the early argument and getting stuck on the lion were a bit too cute. I thought Dan was good some of the time, but he drew things out too dramatically sometimes and was over the top easily, especially when he stomped off with the shopping trolley.
In older things Phil has been good like that James video there and his other old quirky/dark/creative videos, but in later things like Ashens' sofa quest he's not, and it showed a bit in Mark's video too. I think a lot of the problem is him being AmazingPhil acting cute, making a face or something and it's too much. His voice acting's always been amazing and it comes across more low-key, he just gets fully into the voice and bam, total character.
I loved the gaming video. I'd have downloaded the game just to finish the first quest if it was free, but I'm not paying over £5 for any app let alone that much (failed spon for me). Their voices made it, I especially loved Dan as the sad dog and Phil as the squishy-faced policeman. There's a screenshot of them leaning towards each other and the iPad, both smiling and pointing at it, and it looks just like a stock photo in an advert for great fun games to play with your partner. Amazing.
Under the cut cos this post is long already.
I've never played a game like that cos they bore me witless so I'm not experienced in puzzles, I was impressed by their lateral thinking. Actually I figured the K out just before they did, so maybe it wasn't very hard, you could just see the way the shapes work. I love the outfit options too, gotta be careful spending money on those. Phil's "daddy's girl" bit was too funny. It took me a moment before I realised they just meant it's the outfit her dad wore as a detective. There were so many cute moments in this one, I even remember one. Phil at the beginning saying he'd be Sherlock Holmes because he's a better detective and Dan's "you what, mate?" reaction. Cheeky of Phil to say, but fun bants.
They both look really good too; I noticed Dan's hair right away, a bit more wavy than curly and brushed more to the side, also he said he had a haircut on Tuesday.
