Anyway sorry if this has been brought up before but here are Dan's current socialblade statistics:
http://socialblade.com/youtube/user/danisnotonfire
He used to have an A ranking but he's only a B+ now. His 30-day views and subscribers have gone down as well. (The subs are especially concerning -- they've gone by almost 30%). Phil's sub gain is also stalling; he's down by 17%.
What with the
lack of ??? content on their main channels, I can't shake the feeling that they just don't really care that they're losing relevance on yt. People like Caspar who used to be behind Dan in subs are ahead of him now.
Let's face it: the boys are on the older side of the scale for their genre (that appeals mostly to tweens and teenaged girls - and relies on new subs from that age group.) It really isn't hard to see that very young girls are not going to be subscribing to "older" men. Caspar otoh, is at the prime age for the genre - and maybe obtainable in a fantasy universe? - hence his growing subscribership. It also doesn't hurt when Casp appears shirtless in his vids - which is fairly often.
I don't really think it has to do with age of them specifically, kids of the age of 12 to 16 are into bands like twenty one pilots or my chemical romance, or movie actors that are double their age and i don't think they really care a lot. (at least i didn't when i was younger ?)
Well, about socialblade, it's obvious that they have been as inactive as they've ever been on youtube and/or any social media this year because of a couple of things:
i. the american tour content was saved for the documentary that's going to be out in october hopefully
ii. there was no radio show nor liveshows to make them relevant between videos (of course this means, less tweeting / tumblr posts from us, and more likely for people that are not as invested, to just drift away or momentarely forget about their existance, just because we don't have enough to buzz about besides some lousy tweets and pictures every once in a while)
iii. there were obviously less videos in general, that means less subs and less views. mid tatinof usa show there was literally an entire month where they didn't upload a single video in any channel.
my conclusion though, is that they counted for this to happen because they are hoping to unleash all content in october like last year. While the whole year of 2015 was kind of chill and not really much happened, the last three months were hectic and it made up for the whole year of inactivity and comparatively when you see it with other youtubers, they may upload like one video a week or two / three a month but, the buzz that d&p generate when they work intensely on projects brings back all the "periferic" viewers i think.
i wouldn't see it as them 'loosing relevancy' and more of a different approach to generating content. i'd rather be it this way if it means the final product is going to be good, guess we'll see when the documentary / tatinof comes out.
