Dan and Phil were mentioned in a topic of how it’s important for young men to talk about their feelings or if anything isn’t going well

Mornings - 26 August
with Wendy Harmer (but Wendy Harmer was sick today so it was someone else) on 702 ABC Sydney

PS. Can we PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE band together and make Dan and Phil notice that they were mentioned this morning on the radio and in this topic of conversation specifically :) I’m sure they’d be really happy and flattered

hello im new but please don't make a big deal out of it thanks

I love that someone said this about them. Its so true, and its why I watch them.

backstory here

I saw tatinof in Hollywood and it was worth it for these moments of realness mixed with goofiness they had that this lady clearly saw. I'm glad she noticed, and that it stuck with her enough for her to comment on it days later. That's powerful.

Funny how they haven't tweeted about the Stand Up To Cancer yet. I wonder if they are somewhere without Internet....

They haven't tweeted about the Stand Up To Cancer but Dan is active in Tumblr. I've been receiving notifs. He just reblogged a post 10mins ago. #priorities, Dan.

Probably a queue set up. I mean, it's like 7 am in Australia. Not even the worst insomnia would still have him up, and he was liking things yesterday, so he could have set up a queue.

(Also, the gaming video was excellent, might post thoughts later, but for now, I am just riding the joy train & can't brain very well. Can't wait for the next episode. Hopefully it's not too long before Dan's ego can handle another one. :D)

Ohh, that's interesting. I do remember him standing like that, but didn't realise he was pulling his stomach in. Ages ago now he said after being a bit chubby as a teenager he only got slimmer cos he grew taller, he's stayed squishy in the middle.

Do you guys think this could also be about some kind of insecurity about his height? It came up in the diss track as well; "you're freakishly tall, it's weird you look like a noodle". Maybe he's just self conscious
That makes more sense (though I still like the other theory). He said exactly that in the caption of that photo of him crouching somewhere in Japan too.

I have a few theories on his posture too.

1. I too was a shakespearean actor in middle school/high school/beginning of college, and his posture during tatinof (the bending forward and gesturing largely with his hands) gave me flashbacks of kids trying to do shakespeare. You don't learn until you get a good director how to stand properly with a broom tied to your back until you stop bending forward. Maybe Dan is still in the middle school actor mentality, if that was the last direction he had.

2. In the DitL aus vid he was laying with his back on the floor and legs on the bed, and I was instantly suspicious of back problems. I have low back problems from sitting on the computer too much and this is exactly what my physical therapist had me do in the beginning when it was bad. It would explain his hesitation in answering as well, since he can't say "my back hurts and I was taking the pressure off it".

Just my thoughts.

I can't decide if I prefer their UK upload schedule where they upload late at night my time aka when I really should be in bed but always inevitably stay up and watch or the AUS one where it's in the middle of the day and I have work/after work plans and can't watch it for like 8 hours. Not that it matters as they'll be home soon enough and we'll be back to the late night uploads.

I love watching them play the impossible quiz, the bants and chemistry are always on point in these videos. They were just too adorable for words.

Also very weirdly (for me) some of the questions literally give me flashbacks to the period in school when everyone was playing this and I find I immediately known the answer to some of the really random illogical questions before I've even had a chance to read it (like with the duck the second it appeared I was like yup click the afro and of course they didn't).
Funnily in the intro of the first one when Dan was going on about Phil not knowing what it was I was thinking I'd never heard of it either but when they started playing it all came back to me.
And I probably never would have remembered it existed if I didn't watch them. Yes I make good use of my time in adulthood. :sideeye:

Actually I think you're right, he sits in very uncomfortable/bad for your back positions (his sofa crease etc), also being tall doesn't help.
Stand up to cancer - maybe TMI, but today (26th August) is my moms birthday, she passed away from ovarian cancer a year ago. I'm literally crying because of this video.

those characters are from the anime Haikyuu!! They are not the focal characters, they are the captain of the team and the previous setter (like important vollyball player) that are seniors on the team and have to train the new kids. They are the only two seniors in the beginning who survived the harsh training of the previous coach and stuck around, the other two seniors dropped out. (Much Drama, very uplifting when they return). Its a popular ship, but not the main characters.

He probably just liked it because it was making fun of famous art though, let's not get too deep about tumblr likes k

I loved loved loved the video! It brightened my day, to be honest. This quiz is so funny and gives me flashbacks to playing it when I was 12.
I love the role-reversal: Dan messing up and Phil excelling. I'm so glad there was no "PHIL OH MY GOD YOU FUCKED UP" in this video because watching that exaggeration annoys me (but it doesn't annoy me when it's positive... PHIL LESTER!!!)

?? I'm pretty sure Winston was talking about the picture, in which case the characters are Shinji and Kaworu from Neon Genesis Evangelion.

The picture is both funny because of the canon homolust and for another reason which is a pretty big spoiler for Eva, so don't look under the cut if you're interested in seeing this anime at a later date.
In Eva, the villains that the main characters fight are called "angels". Kaworu's big reveal is that he's actually an angel. There we go.
Pretty much the only reason why I get so excited about Dan reblogging Eva things is because I'm a massive fan and also a big KawoShin shipper, so I'm happy that he's basically on the same boat as me. My very first post at GG is even a damn blurb about Eva and how I think it shows a bit about Dan himself, which I guess I'll repost here too for the hell of it.
Speaking of D&P and people from completely off the wall fandoms that happened to crossover, I usually reside in the pretentious anime/video game side of the internet. With that said, I want to write a quick blurb about why I find Dan’s fascination with Evangelion part fucking awesome and part intriguing, because I can’t anywhere else.

For most people in this forum, you’ll have no idea what Evangelion is or why you should care that Dan constantly brings it up as one of his favorite anime and Shinji being (probably) one of his favorite characters. That’s fine, I’ll try my best to explain my train of thought.

I want to preface this with an acknowledgement: Just because I will state that Dan relates to Shinji’s struggles, doesn’t mean I am relating him to Shinji, who is known to have AVPD and Depression.

Shinji, who happens to be the MC, is known to be a very troubled character (along with the entire cast of Eva). His main problems usually fall into three groups: his trouble with interpersonal relationships, his budding sexuality, and his family. I won’t get into great detail about every single aspect, we’ll be here all day if I do.

To keep it short and simple, Shinji:
  • is said to have “Hedgehog’s Dilemma”, which is described as a need to feel a close relationship with someone, but being too scared of pain and rejection to seek it out. Shinji’s case is more of an irrational fear, hence the AVPD mention.
  • is canonically bisexual. He has sexual tensions with many of the girls in the series, but ends up falling in love with a guy instead (because the guy was the only person who was nice to him. Yup.)
  • has a dead mother who he constantly seeks the help of, and an absentee father, who he constantly tries to get the approval of.
Again, I’m not trying to insinuate anything about Dan and his own problems. Instead, I think Dan may see some of himself reflected in Shinji. That’s why I think other psychological shows, like Madoka Magica, never got talked about by Dan after he finished watching them, and why Eva seemed to leave such a profound impact heh on him.

Basically, I wish Dan would talk more about Eva. It’s a good show and I feel like I’d understand him a smidge more if he spoke beyond vague praises. Phil too, since he seems to not care very much about character driven stories, it’d be like seeing the other side of the moon.

This is probably going to be my only post here. I just wanted to get this out of my system.

P.S: Watch Evangelion.

P.P.S: Next liveshow, someone should ask Dan “Asuka or Rei?” If he goes on /a/ as much as he implies he does, then he should get it.

P.P.P.S.: Can someone please inform Dan it's not pronounced "Evanjellyon"? Thanks.

I have no idea why I'm finding this so hilarious but their nostrils and lips are at almost exactly the same height. I'd say something here about them being unaware of their height different because no one has to lean up or down when they kiss but I'm trying real hard not to be trash so I'm just gonna say it with in a tiny font under the guise of not wanting to say it.

The video was very cute. They're such sweethearts. Phil is really good at lateral thinking, he'd be great at solving riddles! I really enjoy having a glimpse into Phil's thinking process, because he's obviously a very intelligent individual but he doesn't aim to come across as one in the way that Dan does (no #shade, you use your widely varied lexicon boi); I find it absolutely fascinating, because it was their chemistry that pulled me in but the way that they handle business and the personal nature of youtube vs. the illusion of closeness that keeps me analysing (... and their chemistry though, lbr).

I love getting a small glimpse into how they approach problem solving because handling public perception involved a LOT of problem solving. They really do make a complimentary pair. I really love that they seem to highly value each other's minds and understand that they have strengths where the other has weaknesses. What a lovely dynamic, when will they release their hold on me; when will I be free. Love to all and keep on keepin on

<3 those pictures of phil . i have a secret dream of phil's stylist/taking photos of phil (sorry dan). the sharp angles of his face.. the dichotomy of grace and awkwardness he is constantly displaying, the way he's never still. he reminds me of a hummingbird. i need phil lester to model, and i need the colour silver and black involved. maybe neon lights. the contrasting colours in his skin and hair

those photos brought back all the feels. lord.

So I only just saw that Bryony liked this tweet a few days ago:
Which is interesting because nobody is tagged in it (or even named) so I wonder what she was doing to come across it. Also, to any airport stalkers reading, this is some great confirmation that D&P's irl friends think you're creeptastic and you'll be/have been shit-talked. She says while stalking Twitter. So.. congrats.

Also pewdiepie liked Dan's tweet announcing the new gaming video which I took to mean he watched it (I mean, right? Otherwise what a boring tweet to give attention). Which just made me wonder what he makes of D&P being so painfully adorable and fond and goddamn leaning on each other with laughter what does he make of it. I honestly hate reaction channels, they're lazy and pointless, but I would give much of my own physical money to Felix to watch him react to this or like pinof1, you know? (Throwback to his great real-time reaction to them syncing up in the Summer Sports vid). Like I don't care what some random strangers think, I want to know what people they actually know think (and like also just straight up what they know ) The curiosity gets to be too much sometimes..

Now I just want them to collab again with Melix. Last time was pretty awkward (but fun, but awkw) and I want to see their interactions now that they've known each other a bit longer. Specifically just another gaming collab though so everybody has something to do and the cringe can't get too real.
Thanks and have a great day! Oil me

My only meaningful contribution is that the very first thing I noticed when I saw the full body Stand Up to Cancer picture is Phil has a large, suspicious white stain right on and below his crotch....
Image
(No I don't think it's actually jizz but yikes that's the kind of thing someone should rly notice/point out before doing a high quality photoshoot)

Some thoughts on the new vid:
-How nice to see Phil being the better gamer for once
-Really love how at 6:19 with the "what is a whelk" moment they lean into eachother and it feels like a really natural, casual, private interaction that we happened to be privy to
-Very attracted to dan leaning back at 8:09
-Appreciate their leaving in the Ribena quest--they're humans! Thanks for feeling comfortable showing us you aren't robots, guys!
-Another furry reference from Dan... Someone a while ago mentioned that it's odd how Dan keeps making jokes and comments at the expense of furries when that's not something he does with any other fringe group or type of person. And I agree, I don't think it's in Dan's nature to take cheap shots at any group of people, including furries. Unless, that is, he identifies with that group. So while I definitely don't think he's an all out closeted mascot furry or anything like that, I do feel like there's a little bit of truth to the secretly a furry joke, and that he may feel an attachment to the furry community in some small way... (Honestly, his infatuation with the giant animal creature from gw2 pushed me over the edge.)
